Up at historic Wrigley Field on Wednesday, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Chicago Cubs will be continuing their MLB series.
In the Tuesday opener, the Cubs scored eight runs in the first three innings on the way to a 16-4 blowout.
USA TODAY Sports
For Wednesday’s game, the D-Backs will be bringing out RHP Zack Godley. In his 88.1 innings and 4-4 record this year, Godley has a 3.06 ERA with 91 Ks and 27 BBs.
Arizona has some notable hitters this year. Paul Goldschmidt came into this series with 117 hits, 82 runs, 22 homers and 78 RBI, while Davie Peralta had 104 hits, 55 runs, 10 homers and 34 RBI. On Tuesday, Peralta plated a run; Goldschmidt had two hits with an RBI.
Over on the Cubs’ side, they’re going with RHP Jake Arrieta on Wednesday. In his 120.2 innings and 10-7 record this year, Arrieta has a 4.03 ERA with 116 Ks and 40 BBs.
Chicago has some key bats as well. Kris Bryant brought 99 hits, 67 runs, 20 homers and 45 RBI, while Anthony Rizzo had 96 hits, 60 runs, 24 homers and 67 RBI. On Tuesday, Rizzo ripped two homers for three RBI and three runs; Bryant had a hit, two RBI and two runs.
The Diamondbacks are 8-3 in their last 11 Wednesday games, and 0-7 in their last seven during game two of a series. Arizona is also 5-2 in Godley’s last seven road starts and 7-3 in Godley’s last 10 starts.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 5-0 in their last five during game two of a series, and 8-0 in Arrieta’s last eight starts with six days’ rest. Chicago is also 9-3 in Arrieta’s last 12 Wednesday starts, and 52-25 in Arrieta’s last 77 starts.
After a bad couple of games that saw him give up 10 earned in 11.2 innings on 13 hits, Godley bounced back with 7.0 innings, four hits and zero earned against the Cardinals. As for Arrieta, he’s been solid over his last three starts, giving up a total of five earned in 19.1 innings. I like Arrieta to keep it going here and pick up his third win in four starts. I’ll take the Cubs for the victory.
