The Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers face off in the finale of their three game division set on Wednesday night.
The Seattle Mariners will look to complete the sweep after an 8-7 win in game two game the M’s their fourth straight win. Robinson Cano led the team, going 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs, while Leonys Martin went 2 for 5 with two RBIs. Nelson Cruz belted a solo homer while Jerrod Dyson and Danny Valencia got in on the scoring for Seattle to round out the offensive output in the win. The Texas Rangers will try to avoid the sweep after dropping their fourth straight and sixth in their last eight games following their loss in game two on Tuesday. Joey Gallo led the charge, going 2 for 4 with a pair of home runs while Rougned Odor went 2 for 5 with a two run shot of his own. Mike Napoli had an RBI as well, rounding out the Rangers’ output, while Elvis Andrus went 1 for 5 with a double. Shin-Soo Choo went 3 for 4, while Carlos Gomez and Nomar Mazara added base hits of their own in the loss. Nick Martinez took the loss, falling under .500 at 3-4 this season after giving up seven runs on eight hits while walking a pair over 5.1 innings of work. Andrew Cashner will start game three and is 6-8 with a 3.48 ERA and 51 strikeouts this season. In his career, Cashner is 0-3 with a 3.58 ERA and 18 strikeouts against Seattle.
Seattle is 4-1 in Miranda’s last 5 road starts and 8-1 in their last 9 road games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 division matchups. Texas is 0-4 in their last 4 games overall and 1-5 in their last 6 against a left-handed starter while the under is 15-7 in their last 22 games against a team with a winning record. Seattle is 10-3 in the last 13 meetings between these two teams.
This should be an interesting matchup, however from a betting perspective, you have to like the Mariners here. I think the pitching matchup is a toss-up, so since that cancels out, we are getting the team in much better form against a team who showed their intentions this season when the Rangers dealt Yu Darvish to the Dodgers. Seattle needs to win games like these if they are going to contend for a wild card spot down the stretch, so I’ll take Seattle to complete the sweep here.
