The Boston Red Sox host the Chicago White Sox in MLB baseball on Thursday night.
The Chicago White Sox are out of the playoff picture but with plenty of games left against contenders, they could decide who stays home. The White Sox have struggled to losses in nine of eleven after a 5-1 defeat at the hands of the visiting Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. CWS starter Derek Holland allowed two runs on five hits and four BB over six frames to fall to 5-11 before Jake Petricka gave up two runs in 1.2 innings. Chicago posted eight hits and three walks with Leury Garcia driving in Tyler Saldino with the lone run. The Chicago White Sox are slated to send right hander Miguel Gonzalez to the hill to face the Boston Red Sox on Thursday. Gonzalez comes off a 5-4 loss (ND) versus the Cleveland Indians with four runs scoring (three earned) on six hits and three BB in six frames.

The Boston Red Sox are running neck and neck with the Yankees for the American League East so every defeat is crucial. The Yankees have made a few moves that make them tougher down the stretch so the Red Sox have to find a way to be more consistent going forward. Boston has an ‘Okay’ offense that doesn’t possess a ton of power but they can steal a base and use their speed to make life difficult for opposing pitchers. Boston has been known for having a big offense in year’s past but today it’s pitching that rules and with a 3.75 team ERA that is third in the majors and it’s tough to get the pitching to do more then they have so perhaps the offense can up the production a tad. Left hander Eduardo Rodriguez gets the starting nod for the Boston Red Sox in the series opener versus the Chicago White Sox. Rodriguez comes off of a 9-8 win (ND) versus the Kansas City Royals with four runs plated on seven hits and three BB in four frames.
Chicago are 8-21 in their last 29 road games and Chicago are 16-35 in their last 51 games on grass while Chicago are 17-37 in their last 54 overall. The under is 20-8-1 in Boston last 29 home games and the under is 15-7 in Boston last 22 Thursday games. The over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Boston and Chicago are 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Boston.
The White Sox have a puncher’s chance here in my view with the way Gonzalez is throwing but he will need some runs which makes this pick a worry…
