MLB baseball on Thursday features a bout between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Houston Astros.
The Tampa Bay Rays are contending for the American League East crown with the Red Sox and Yankees so there is little wiggle room. The Rays have done their part the past two days with back to back wins after Wednesday’s 3-0 win at Houston. TB starter Austin Pruitt put everything together with five hits allowed over 6.1 scoreless frames to up his record to 6-2. Tampa Bay totaled nine hits and four walks with Logan Morrison smacking a two run bomb while Brad Miller posted an RBI single. The Tampa Bay Rays have tabbed Blake Snell to start against the Houston Astros in the final game of the series. Snell did not receive a decision last time out in a 5-4 loss at the Yankees where he gave up three runs on six hits and two walks in 5.1 frames.

The Houston Astros are waiting for some injuries to heal but the team is light years ahead of the rest of the American League West. The Astros have dropped consecutive contests following Wednesday night’s defeat where the offense never got going. Stros starter Dallas Keuchel was charged with all three runs on seven hits and a pair of bases on balls through five innings of work that dropped him to 9-1. The dangerous Houston attack was limited to five hits and a trio of free passes with Marwin Gonzalez and Josh Reddick reaching base two times each. The Houston Astros give Thursday’s starting assignment against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays to Collin McHugh. McHugh comes off of a 5-3 loss (ND) at the Detroit Tigers where he allowed a run on only four hits and a BB over six innings pitched.
The under is 6-2 in Tampa Bay last 8 Thursday games and Tampa Bay are 4-9 in their last 13 overall while Tampa Bay are 1-7 in Snell’s last 8 starts. The over is 19-6-1 in Houston last 26 overall and Houston are 61-30 in their last 91 games on grass while Houston are 9-2 in McHugh’s last 11 starts. The over is 8-0 in the last 8 meetings and Tampa Bay are 25-12 in the last 37 meetings.
McHugh is a guy I can’t figure out at times but the numbers favor him Thursday…
