The Reds will be bringing out RHP Sal Romano on Thursday. Romano has a 4.57 ERA and 23 Ks in his 21.2 innings and 2-2 record.
The Reds have some interesting hitters this year. Coming into Wednesday, Joey Votto had 113 hits, 69 runs, 27 homers and 72 RBI, while Adam Duvall had 105 hits, 54 runs, 23 homers and 72 RBI. Duvall ripped a homer with three RBI on Wednesday; Votto had two hits and a run.
The Pirates are going to be going with RHP Chad Kuhl on Thursday. In his 102.1 innings and 3-7 record this year, Kuhl has a 4.84 ERA with 84 Ks and 44 BBs.
Pittsburgh has some notable players as well. Coming into Wednesday, Andrew McCutchen led the way on 109 hits, 68 runs, 22 homers and 66 RBI, while Josh Harrison had 106 hits, 49 runs, 11 homers and 33 RBI. In Wednesday’s game, McCutchen logged two hits in four trips.
The Reds are 3-9 in their last 12 during game three of a series, and 2-8 in their last 10 games versus a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.3.0
Meanwhile, the Pirates are 5-2 in their last seven during game three of a series, and 5-2 in their last seven Thursday games. Pittsburgh is also 6-14 in Kuhl’s last 20 starts and 4-1 in Kuhl’s last five starts versus the NL Central.
Aside from giving up six earned in 4.0 innings against Arizona, Romano has been solid lately. He’s given up one earned on five hits over his last 9.2 innings. As for Kuhl, he’s given up eight runs on 17.0 innings over his last three starts. This should be an interesting pitching matchup, though Romano will likely get a short leash. I’ll take the Reds here if their bullpen can hold it together.
