The Baltimore Orioles will try to rebound after having their five game winning streak snapped thanks to their game one loss on Thursday. Manny Machado led the team with two RBIs, despite going 0 for 3 at the dish in the loss. Tim Beckham went 3 for 4 with a solo homer and a double while Welington Castillo added a sac fly RBI and Jonathan Schoop went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Adam Jones and Craig Gentry each had two hits with one being a double in the losing effort for the O’s. Chris Tillman took the loss, falling to 1-7 this season after giving up seven runs, five earned, on six hits while walking a pair over just two innings of work. Kevin Gausman will start game two and is 8-7 with a 5.37 ERA and 112 strikeouts last season. In his career, Gausman is 1-1 with a 4.82 ERA and 20 strikeouts against Detroit.
Detroit is 0-7 in Verlander’s last 7 road starts and 4-1 in their last 5 against the AL East while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record. Baltimore is 0-4 in Gausman’s last 4 starts against the AL Central and 15-5 in Gausman’s last 20 home starts while the over is 10-1 in their last 11 home games against a team with a losing record. Detroit is 8-2 in Verlander’s last 10 road starts against Baltimore.
I don’t know about you, but this line is backwards to me, but hey I’m not complaining. Even though Baltimore had a decent streak coming into this one get snapped, Detroit is starting to play like the bunch many expected the Tigers to be at the beginning of the year. Not to mention Verlander has had a lot of success in Baltimore, so I think the only logical choice here is to take Detroit and the plus money.
