The New York Yankees face off against the Cleveland Indians in game two of their four game weekend set from Progressive Field on Friday.
The New York Yankees will look to rebound after dropping their third straight and fourth in their last five games following a 5-1 loss in the series opener on Thursday. Gary Sanchez hit a solo homer to make up the lone Yankees run in the loss. Clint Frazier went 1 for 4 with a double while Ronald Torreyes added a base hit of his own as the Yanks were held to just three hits as a team in the loss. Sonny Gray lost his Yankee debut, giving up four runs, two earned, on four hits while walking three and striking out six over six innings of work, falling to 6-6 on the year. Jaime Garcia will also make his Yankees debut in game two, and is 5-7 with a 4.29 ERA and 92 strikeouts this season. This will be Garcia’s first career start against Cleveland.

The Cleveland Indians will look to build on their game one win that snapped their own three game losing streak. Jose Ramirez and Yan Gomes each put up two RBIs, with Ramirez opening the scoring with a two run RBI single, followed by Gomes’ two-run RBI double in the 6th inning. Francisco Lindor added his 18th homer run of the season, a solo homer in the 7th inning to round out the scoring for the Tribe. Edwin Encarnacion and Brandon Guyer each notched base hits of their own in the win for Cleveland. Corey Kluber threw yet another gem, going the distance for the complete game victory to improve to 9-3 this season after giving up just one run on three hits while striking out eleven in the win. Trevor Bauer will start game two and is 9-8 with a 5.25 ERA and 117 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bauer is 1-4 with a 5.34 ERA and 25 strikeouts against the Yankees.
New York is 7-3 in their last 10 games overall and 5-1 in their last 6 games against a right-handed starter while the under is 8-1-1 in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record. Cleveland is 10-1 in their last 11 home games and 9-3 in their last 12 games overall while the under is 5-2-1 in Bauer’s last 8 starts against the AL East. New York is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Cleveland.
New York’s offense could very well wake up in this one. However, Garcia will be playing for his 3rd different team in his last three starts, so I’m sure there will be a learning curve in his first game with his newest club. Bauer has held the opposition to three runs or less in six of his last eight starts, and the Indians are playing well enough that I think they can take game two here.
