Down at SunTrust Park on Saturday, the Miami Marlins and the Atlanta Braves will be picking up their MLB series once again.
In Friday’s opener, the Braves scored three runs in the sixth inning on the way to a 5-3 victory.
USA TODAY Sports
For the Saturday game, the Marlins will be bringing out RHP Dan Straily. In his 123.1 innings and 7-7 record this year, Straily has a 3.79 ERA with 111 Ks and 35 BBs.
The Marlins have some big bats this year. Dee Gordon came into this set with 128 hits, 71 runs and 23 RBI while Marcel Ozuna had 127 hits, 62 runs, 25 homers and 84 RBI. Gordon whiffed on Friday, but Ozuna managed a hit.
Over on the Braves’ side, they’re rolling with RHP Mike Foltynewicz on Saturday. In his 114.2 innings and 9-6 record this year, Foltynewicz has a 4.08 ERA with 104 Ks and 42 BBs.
The Braves have some key bats as well. Ender Inciarte entered this set with 135 hits, 70 runs and 39 RBI while Nick Markakis had 112 hits, 52 runs and 50 RBI. On Friday, Markakis ripped a three-run homer; Inciarte had one hit.
The Marlins are 5-2 in Straily’s last seven starts with five days’ rest, and 0-4 in Straily’s last four starts. Miami is also 1-4 in Straily’s last five starts in game two of a series, and 6-1 in Straily’s last seven starts versus the NL East.
Meanwhile, the Braves are 5-2 in their last seven Saturday games, and 6-0 in Foltynewicz’s last six home starts. Atlanta is also 9-1 in Foltynewicz’s last 10 starts and 5-0 in Foltynewicz’s last five starts with four days’ rest.
Late last month, Straily gave up six earned on 10 hits in 4.0 innings in Texas, but bounced back with 6.0 innings, seven hits and two earned in his last outing against the Reds. The bad news here is that Straily is 0-3 in his last three outings, and has given up 34 hits over his last four starts. Foltynewicz isn’t rock-solid right now by any means, but I think the Braves can get it done here.
