There was no regrouping for the Yankees Friday in a 7-2 defeat at the Cleveland Indians that saddled the team with four consecutive losses. NYY starter Jaime Garcia fell to 5-8 with six runs allowed (five earned) on five hits and four bases on balls over 4.2 frames. New York pounded out eleven hits and walked twice with Todd Frazier leaving the yard while Brett Gardner drove in Ronald Torreyes. The New York Yankees have scheduled Jordan Montgomery as Saturday’s starter at the Cleveland Indians. Montgomery absorbed a 5-3 loss versus the Tampa Bay Rays with four runs given up on six hits and a pair of bases on balls in 2.2 innings pitched.

The Cleveland Indians are trying to extend their lead in the American League Central with the Twins and Royals in pursuit. The Indians had dropped three in a row before winning consecutive contests following Friday’s victory where both the arms and bats contributed. Tribe starter Trevor Bauer came up big with a run given up on seven hits and a pair of free passes through seven innings of work to up his record to 10-8. Cleveland did their damage on eight hits and four bases on balls with Edwin Encarnacion driving in two while Austin Jackson drove in a run and scored followed by Michael Brantley with an RBI and two runs. The Cleveland Indians give Saturday’s starting assignment versus the New York Yankees to Danny Salazar. Salazar comes off of a 9-3 victory at the Chicago White Sox where he allowed a pair of runs on three hits and two walks while whiffing eight in six frames.
