The Seattle Mariners and the Kansas City Royals do battle on Saturday in game three of their four game set from Kauffman Stadium.
The Seattle Mariners will look to build on a 5-2 win in game two that tied up the series at one win apiece. Danny Valencia led the team with a pair of sac fly RBIs, while Guillermo Heredia, Jarrod Dyson and Leonys Martin added RBIs in the winning effort for the M’s. Jean Segura went 2 for 4 with a triple while Robinson Cano added a double in the win. Jean Segura and Kyle Seager added base hits of their own as the Mariners put up nine hits as a team. James Paxton gave up both runs on four hits while striking out seven over six innings of work, getting the win to improve to 12-3 this season. Felix Hernandez will start game three and is 5-4 with a 4.28 ERA and 69 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hernandez is 5-6 with a 3.05 ERA and 83 strikeouts against the Royals.

The Kansas City Royals will look to bounce back after letting the Mariners tie the series up with their loss on Friday. Brandon Moss put up an RBI single, while the Royals scored their other run on a wild pitch from James Paxton. Whit Merrifield went 1 for 3 with a double while Lorenzo Cain and Mike Moustakas added base hits of their own, as the Royals put up just four hits as a team in the loss. Jason Hammel took the loss after giving up three runs on six hits while striking out three over 5.1 innings of work. Danny Duffy will start game three and is 7-6 with a 3.42 ERA and 85 strikeouts this season. In his career, Duffy is 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA and 26 strikeouts against Seattle.
Seattle is 4-1 in Hernandez’s last 5 starts and 8-3 in their last 11 road games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 road games against a left-handed starter. Kansas City is 11-4 in their last 15 games overall and 8-3 in Duffy’s last 11 starts against the AL West while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a right-handed starter. Kansas City is 4-1 in Duffy’s last 5 starts against Seattle.
Duffy’s given up one run in three of his last four starts, and the Royals have a wild card spot in their pocket at the moment, but I think King Felix at plus money or with a low line is always worth a look, and that’s where I’m going as the Mariners get a much-needed win in the wild-card race.
