The Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets face off in game two of their three game weekend set from Citi Field on Saturday.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to keep the ball rolling after a series opening 6-0 shutout win over the Mets to give the Dodgers their 11th win in their last 12 games. The majority of the Dodgers’ damage on the scoreboard was done via the home run, with Chase Utley banging out a two-run shot, while Yasiel Puig and Chris Taylor each notched a solo homer. Justin Turner went 0 for 3 but still played a part in the other two runs in the win. Corey Seager accounted for the other three Dodger hits in the winning effort, including a double. Yu Darvish made quite the impact for his new squad, throwing seven innings of three hit, shutout baseball, striking out 10 in the win to improve to 7-9 this season. Rich Hill will start game two and is 8-4 with a 3.35 ERA and 90 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hill is 1-2 with a 9.00 ERA and 17 strikeouts against the Mets.

The New York Mets will look for a series-tying win to turn things around after their game one loss gave the Mets their seventh loss in their last nine games. Michael Conforto went 2 for 4 while Amed Rosario and starting pitcher Jacob DeGrom each added a base hit in the loss. The Mets tallied just four hits as a team in the loss with none of them going for extra bases. Speaking of DeGrom, he gave up three runs on five hits while walking three and striking out eight over five innings of work, taking the loss to fall to 12-5 this season. Seth Lugo will get the nod in game two and is 5-3 with a 4.53 ERA and 39 strikeouts this season. This will be Lugo’s first career start against
Los Angeles is 43-10 in their last 53 games overall and 6-0 in Hill’s last 6 starts against a team with a losing record while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 road games against a right-handed starter. New York is 13-3 in Lugo’s last 16 starts and 1-4 in their last 5 against the NL West while the over is 24-7-1 in their last 32 games against a
left-handed starter. Los Angeles is 6-0 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
Another Dodger game, same story. The Dodgers just have this knack for winning and it’s almost like they couldn’t lose even if they tried. Lugo has been one of the better arms in the Mets’ rotation over the last year or so, but he’s coming off an outing where he gave up five runs over five innings of work. The margin for error will be razor thin for Lugo, but I don’t think it’ll matter as the Dodgers win comfortably.
