The Boston Red Sox look to extend their lead in the AL East with a win versus the Chicago White Sox in Sunday MLB action on Sunday afternoon.

The Chicago White Sox have yet to find any type of groove in the second half of the season. The White Sox didn’t find the groove Saturday in a 4-1 loss at the Boston Red Sox where the offense stalled. CWS starter James Shields was charged with all four runs (three earned) on five hits including two homers to fall to 2-4. The White Sox mustered eight hits and a walk with Tim Anderson providing the team with their offense on his 10th long ball of the season.  Veteran right hander Mike Pelfrey draws the start for the Chicago White Sox for Sunday’s bout with the Boston Red Sox. Pelfrey comes off of an 8-4 defeat to the Toronto Blue Jays with six runs plated on seven hits including two homers over 5.2 frames.

USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Red Sox are trying to put some distance between themselves and the New York Yankees in the American League East. The Red Sox held up their end of the bargain Saturday with a few timely hits and outstanding work on the mound carrying the day. Boston starter Drew Pomeranz upped his record to 11-4 with the lone run given up on seven hits and a base on balls through 6.1 innings of work. The Red Sox did their damage on five hits and a pair of walks with Andrew Benintendi and Jackie Bradley Jr. each clubbing two run bombs. The Boston Red Sox have tabbed Doug Fister as Sunday’s starter against the visiting Chicago White Sox. Fuster won his first game of the season last time out in a 6-2 decision versus the Cleveland Indians where he allowed two runs on five hits and two BB in 7.2 frames.

The over is 8-2 in Chicago last 10 Friday games and Chicago  are 15-36 in their last 51 games on grass while Chicago are 17-39 in their last 56 overall. Boston are 7-1 in their last 8 Friday games and Boston are 3-8 in their last 11 games following a win while the under is 14-6 in Boston last 20 home games. The over is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings in Boston.

I’m not touching this with these guys pitching so all I can say is use caution…
