The Oakland A’s and the Los Angeles Angels square off in the rubber match of their three game AL West division set on Sunday.

The Oakland A’s will look to take the series after a 5-0 shutout win in game two of the set on Sunday evened up the series at one game apiece. Dustin Garneau put up the only two RBIs in the win for Oakland, going 1 for 4 with a two-run single. Chad Pinder went 1 for 4 with a double while Rajai Davis, Marcus Semien and Mark Canha all pitched in a pair of base hits in the win. Jed Lowrie also added a base knock in the winning effort for the A’s. Paul Blackburn got the win, improving to 3-1 this season after throwing 6.2 innings of five hit, shutout baseball. Sean Manaea will start the series finale and is 8-6 with a 3.88 ERA and 111 strikeouts this season. In his career, Manaea is 0-2 with a 5.23 ERA and 12 strikeouts against the Angels.

The Los Angeles Angels will look to rebound after having their four game winning streak snapped with their loss in game two on Saturday. Ben Revere and Kole Calhoun each had a pair of base hits while Mike Trout and Albert Pujols added a hit each as well. None of the Halos’ six hits as a team went for extra bases in the loss. Tyler Skaggs took the loss, falling to 1-2 this season after giving up three runs on six hits while walking a pair and striking out three over just four innings of work. Ricky Nolasco will start game three and is 5-12 with a 4.90 ERA and 101 strikeouts this season. In his career, Nolasco is 4-3 with a 3.26 ERA and 42 strikeouts against Oakland.

Oakland is 17-36 in their last 53 road games and 23-51 in their last 74 division matchups while the under is 6-3 in their last 9 road games. Los Angeles is 6-1 in their last 7 home games and 5-2 in their last 7 home games against a team with a losing record while the under is 5-1-1 in their last 7 division matchups. Oakland is 1-7 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams in Los Angeles.

Nolasco has been one of my favourite auto-fade pitchers for the majority of this season, but now he’s starting to turn in solid performances more regularly. Sure, He’s capable of imploding at any moment and Manaea has been one of the better arms in the A’s rotation, but Oakland has the worst road record in the AL at 18-37 so that surely has to count for something. Add in the fact that Los Angeles has won all four games that Manaea has started against the Angels, and I think the pick is simple. Give me the Angels for the series win on Sunday.
