The Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Francisco Giants face off in the rubber match of their three game NL West division series on Sunday.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will try to bounce back after having their three game winning streak snapped thanks to a 5-4 extra innings loss in game two on Saturday. J.D. Martinez fell a homer short of the cycle, going 3 for 4 with a triple, a double and an RBI. David Peralta added three hits and an RBI of his own including a double. Paul Goldschmidt went 1 for 4 with an RBI while Ketel Marte, Jeff Mathis and starting pitcher Taijuan Walker added a base hit of their own in the loss. Speaking of Walker, he gave up three runs on six hits while striking out six over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. David Hernandez received his 2nd blown save of the year while T.J. McFarland gave up the game-winning RBI single to take the loss, falling to 4-4 this season. Patrick Corbin is starting the series finale and is 8-10 with a 4.77 ERA and 115 strikeouts this season. In his career, Corbin is 4-6 with a 3.51 ERA and 65 strikeouts against San Francisco.

The San Francisco Giants will look to find some form of consisteny play after alternating wins and losses in each of their last six games, including their win in game two on Saturday. Jarrett Parker led the way, going 2 for 5 with a double and two RBIs, including the game-winning RBI single in the 10th inning. Hunter Pence went 1 for 4 with a two run homer, while Nick Hundley went 3 for 4 with a double in addition to Denard Span and Pablo Sandoval’s two-bagger respectively. Kelby Tomlinson, Brandon Crawford and Joe Panik each contributed base hits in the winning effort for the Giants. Chris Stratton gave up three runs, two earned, on five hits while walking and striking out four apiece, not factoring in the decision. Hunter Strickland got the win to improve to 2-2 this season. Jeff Samardzija will start game three and is 6-11 with a 4.77 ERA and 151 strikeouts this season. In his career, Samardzija is 2-3 with a 4.45 ERA and 65 strikeouts against Arizona.
Arizona is 1-3 in Corbin’s last 4 road starts and 2-6 in Corbin’s last 8 starts overall while the under is 5-2-1 in their last 8 division matchups. San Francisco is 3-6 in their last 9 games overall and 4-2 in their last 6 games overall while the over is 6-3 in Samardzija’s last 9 starts overall.
Neither of these pitchers have done much to instill any confidence in me, with Corbin being abysmal on the road and Samardzija not being very good at all this season. However, we are getting the more consistent team at plus money, so the D-Backs would be my pick if forced to pick a side. But I feel the safer pick and the more likely to come through is the over as I can see this one easily eclipsing double figures.
