The San Diego Padres visit Great American Ball Park to take the field with the Cincinnati Reds in an MLB baseball tilt on Monday.

The San Diego Padres are looking to avoid the basement in the National League West which means no slumping. The Padres lost a tough one Sunday as they scored twice in the first and twice in the 9th but couldn’t do any more damage in a 12 inning, 5-4 defeat at the Pittsburgh Pirates. SD starter Clayton Richard allowed four runs on five hits through six frames before Buddy Baumann surrendered a walk off homer in the 12th to absorb the loss. San Diego posted nine hits and five walks with Cory Spangenberg driving in a run and scoring while Manuel Margot smacked a two run single and scored. Jhoulys Chacin toes the rubber for the San Diego Padres for Monday’s matchup with the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. Chacin is riding a three game winning  streak  after downing  Minnesota 3-0 with  seven scoreless  innings pitched.

Cincinnati Reds vs. San Diego Padres - 8/7/17 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Cincinnati Reds were hoping for a better showing versus the Cardinals but they dropped two of three to the rival Redbirds following a 13-4 defeat on Sunday. The Cinci pitching couldn’t control the scoreboard with starter Homer Bailey allowing eleven runs (ten earned) on ten hits and four walks over 3.1 innings to absorb the loss.  Cincinnati  totaled  eight  hits  and five  bases on balls  with Joey  Votto clubbing a three run homer while Eugenio Suarez smacked his 18th long ball of the season. The Cincinnati Reds give Monday’s start against the visiting San Diego Padres to right hander Robert Stephenson. Stephenson did not get a decision in a 5-2 loss at the Pittsburgh Pirates last time out where he allowed a run on two hits and two walks in 5.2 frames.

San Diego are 6-4 in their last 10 overall and San Diego are 31-62 in their last 93 road games while San Diego are 28-57 in their last 85 road games versus a right hander. Cincinnati are 12-6 in their last 18 home games versus a team with a losing record and Cincinnati are 3-7 in their last 10 home games versus a team with a losing record while Cincinnati are 6-16 in their last 22 overall.

Chacin is the best the Padres have so I will take a look at him as a road dog…
