The Detroit Tigers visit the Pittsburgh Pirates in interleague MLB baseball on Tuesday.
The Detroit Tigers look like the role of spoiler has been bestowed upon them going forward. The Tigers appeared to be in a groove before the weekend with four straight wins but have since dropped three in a row following a 3-0 defeat at Pittsburgh where the offense never got going. Detroit starter Jordan Zimmermann was charged with all three runs on five hits and a trio of free passes that saw him fall to 7-8. Detroit was held to just one hit and a pair of bases on balls with James McCann logging a single. Matthew Boyd draws Tuesday’s interleague starting assignment from the Detroit Tigers versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. Boyd comes off of 7-5 win (ND) at the Baltimore Orioles where he gave up three runs on five hits and four BB in 4.1 frames.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are still alive in the National League Central race but I don’t see the team staying hot long enough to be a factor. With Monday’s victory versus visiting Detroit, the Pirates might be heating up after wins in four of five. Buccos starter Trevor Williams tossed a dream game with a single and a pair of walks allowed over seven innings of work that evened his record at 4-4. Pittsburgh did their damage on five hits and a trio of free passes with John Jaso smacking a two run homer while Francisco Cervelli drove in a run and scored. Chad Kuhl toes the rubber for the Pittsburgh Pirates when they host the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday. Kuhl comes off of his best start in 2017 in a 6-0 win versus the Cincinnati Reds where he allowed for hits and issued a pair of walks over seven frames.
Detroit are 5-2 in their last 7 during game 2 of a series and Detroit are 2-5 in their last 7 interleague road games while Detroit are 2-7 in their last 9 interleague games versus a right hander. The under is 20-5-1 in Pittsburgh last 26 home games and Pittsburgh are 8-3 in their last 11 home games while Pittsburgh are 5-12 in their last 17 Tuesday games.
I don’t like the Pirates inconsistency but I give them a slight edge on Tuesday…
