The Boston Red Sox look to extend their lead in the East when they visit the Tampa Bay Rays in Wednesday MLB baseball.
The Boston Red Sox are playing well as they try to protect their lead in the AL East versus the Yankees and Rays. The surging Red Sox picked up a game on both teams Tuesday in a 2-0 victory at Tampa Bay behind outstanding work on the mound. Boston starter Chris Sale upped his record to 14-4 with two hits allowed over eight frames while striking out 12. The Red Sox pounded out 12 hits and walked once with Rafael Devers and Jackie Bradley Jr. driving in runs while Dustin Pedroia and Xander Bogaerts scored. Rick Porcello toes the rubber for the Boston Red Sox when they take the field at the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday. Porcello comes off of a 9-5 win versus the Chicago White Sox where he allowed all five runs on seven hits and two BB over 5.1 frames.

The Tampa Bay Rays are looking to make a move in the American League East with the Red Sox in town. The Rays never got their offense in gear Tuesday night and in the process an outstanding performance on the mound went for naught. TB starter Austin Pruitt allowed a run on seven hits and a base on balls through six innings to absorb the loss and fall to 6-3 while Ryne Stanek allowed a 9th inning run. Tampa Bay was limited to a pair of hits with Peter Bourjos and Wilson Ramos logging singles. The Tampa Bay Rays will be bringing Jake Odorizzi off of the disabled list Wednesday to face the Boston Red Sox. Odorizzi last pitched on July 23rd and has gone 6-4 overall in 18 outings where he has a 4.47 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP in 94.2 innings.
Boston are 10-4 in their last 14 games on astroturf and the under is 7-1 in Porcello’s last 8 Wednesday starts while Boston are 1-7 in Porcello’s last 8 Wednesday starts. The over is 11-5 in Tampa Bay last 16 Wednesday games and the over is 8-1 in Odorizzi’s last 9 starts overall while Tampa Bay are 3-8 in Odorizzi’s last 11 starts. The under is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings in Tampa Bay.
I don’t like Odorizzi because he is coming off the DL and is an unknown and I don’t like Porcello because he doesn’t win so I’ll take the hot team…
