The Washington Nationals look to move closer to the NL East crown with a win versus the Miami Marlins in MLB baseball Wednesday.

The Miami Marlins are trying to reach .500 and finish 2017 with a winning record which is well within reach. The Marlins had lost three off four before Tuesday’s 7-3 victory at Washington with strong efforts from both the arms and bats. Fish starter Vance Worley allowed a single run on six hits and a trio of free passes over six frames to up his record to 2-2. Miami did their damage on six hits and four walks with Derek Dietrich and Giancarlo Stanton both going deep and driving in three with Stanton scoring two while Miguel Rojas scored twice. Left hander Adam Conley takes the bump for the Miami Marlins for his first meeting with the Washington Nationals in 2017. Conley comes off of a 5-3 defeat at the Atlanta Braves where he gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk in 5.1 frames.

Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins - 8/9/17 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Washington Nationals have a few injury concerns and are hoping to wrap the NL East as quickly as possible. The Nationals had won three of four before Tuesday night’s defeat at the hands of the visiting Miami Marlins. The Nats struggled on the mound with starter AJ Cole giving up four runs on four hits including a pair of long balls while Sammy Solis and Joe Blanton combined to allow three runs. Washington had plenty of runners on eleven hits and three BB with Bryce Harper driving in two while Brian Goodwin went 3-5 with a pair of runs. The Washington Nationals are giving Wednesday’s starting assignment to left hander Gio Gonzalez who opposes the Miami Marlins for the second straight time. Gonzalez  defeated  Miami 1-0  with  a hit  and three  walks issued  over eight frames.

Miami are 4-0 in their last 4 during game 3 of a series and Miami are 2-5 in their last 7 versus a team with a winning record while Miami are 1-4 in their last 5 versus a left handed starter. Washington are 6-2 in their last 8 games versus a left handed starter and Washington are 5-2 in their last 7 home games versus a team with a losing record while Washington are 8-3 in their last 11 versus a team with a losing record. Miami are 15-37 in the last 52 meetings in Washington.

It will be tough for Gonzalez to shut down the Marlins for the second straight outing. Tough but not impossible…
