The Tampa Bay Rays host the Cleveland Indians in an interleague MLB baseball tilt on Thursday.
The Cleveland Indians are trying to extend their lead in the American League Central and make things a bit less stressful going forward. The Indians have not fared well the last few days with losses in three of four after a 3-2, 12 inning defeat to the visiting Colorado Rockies where the offense and bullpen struggled. Tribe starter Trevor Bauer gave up a run and struck out nine over seven frames but did not get the win when Bryan Shaw allowed a 9th inning run while Zach McAllister surrendered a homer in the 12th to absorb the loss. The Cleveland attack consisted of seven hits and five walks with Francisco Lindor blasting a two run bomb that scored Abraham Almonte. Danny Salazar toes the rubber Thursday for the Cleveland Indians against the Tampa Bay Rays for the second time in 2017. Salazar comes in off of a 2-1 loss (ND) versus the New York Yankees where he allowed a run on four hits and three BB while whiffing 12 in seven frames.
USA TODAY Sports
The Tampa Bay Rays are one of the top teams competing for a Wild Card so avoiding a losing streak is a priority. The Rays have hit a bit of a rough patch with Wednesday night’s 8-2 defeat to the Boston Red Sox saddling the team with losses in four of five. TB saw both the arms and bats struggle with starter Jake Odorizzi allowing two runs (one earned) through four innings of work before Dan Jennings and Sergio Romo combined to give up seven runs. The Tampa Bay attack consisted of four hits and a pair of bases on balls with Adeiny Hechavarria and Brad Miller accounting for the scoring with solo homers. The Tampa Bay Rays have named Blake Snell as the starting pitcher against the visiting Cleveland Indians. Snell did not receive a decision in a 5-3 victory at the Houston Astros with three runs scoring on seven hits and a BB over four frames.
The under is 13-3 in Cleveland last 16 on astroturf and Cleveland are 3-8 in their last 11 road games while Cleveland are 37-14 in their last 51 Thursday games. Tampa Bay are 3-7 in their last 10 games on astroturf and Tampa Bay are 3-7 in their last 10 home games while Tampa Bay are 2-7 in Snell’s last 9 starts. Cleveland are 7-1 in their last 8 meetings in Tampa Bay and Cleveland are 11-3 in the last 14 meetings.
Both teams have hit a bump in the road lately so I’m looking at Cleveland with Salazar as Snell has struggled to go five innings which is all I can find…
