The Chicago Cubs take on the Arizona Diamondbacks in game one of a three game weekend set from Chase Field in MLB action on Friday.
The Chicago Cubs come into this one looking to bounce back after dropping back-to-back games against the Giants, dropping the series after losing 3-1 in the series finale on Wednesday. Albert Almora Jr. put up the lone run for the Cubbies in the loss, hitting a solo homer while going 2 for 3 at the dish. Ben Zobrist went 2 for 4 from the leadoff spot while Kris Bryant and Kyle Schwarber added base hits respectively in the loss. Kyle Hendricks gave up one run on five hits while walking three and striking out five over 4.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Brian Duensing took the loss after giving up a run on three hits in just 0.1 innings, falling to 0-1 this season. John Lackey will start game one and is 9-9 with a 4.81 ERA and 102 strikeouts this season. In his career, Lackey is 4-0 with a 2.76 ERA and 31 strikeouts against Arizona.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to bounce back after dropping four of their last five, including an 8-6 loss to the Dodgers in their series finale on Thursday. Chris Iannetta and Ketel Marte each put up two RBIs, with Iannetta going 1 for 4 with a two run home run and Marte hitting a pair of singles. J.D. Martinez added a solo homer while David Peralta added an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for the D-Backs in the loss. A.J. Pollock went 1 for 5 with a double while Daniel Descalso went 3 for 4 at the dish. Anthony Banda took the loss, giving up three runs on four hits while striking out four over four innings of work to fall to 1-2 this season. Taijuan Walker will start game one and is 6-5 with a 3.60 ERA and 96 strikeouts this season. This will be Walker's first career start against the Cubs.
Chicago is 12-3 in their last 15 road games and 5-0 in Lackey's last 5 starts while the over is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games overall. Arizona is 0-5 in Walker's last 5 starts and 41-19 in their last 60 home games while the under is 33-16-3 in their last 53 games against a team with a winning record. Chicago is 9-4 in the last 13 meetings between these two teams.
If you saw my pick from Wednesday night's game, you'd know that I like picking the Diamondbacks at home with low lines because it's always a great value. However, I went against Arizona at home then and I'm doing it again here. The Cubs are rolling, and have played very well on the road and need to string wins together with the Cardinals picking up steam in the division race. The D-Backs have slid a bit lately, and have struggled with Walker on the mound which can't necessarily be said for the Cubs with Lackey, who has done extremely well against Arizona in his career. I like Chicago to keep their momentum going with a big game one win here.
