MLB baseball comes to the City of Brotherly Love when the Philadelphia Phillies host the New York Mets Friday.
Injuries have taken a toll on the New York Mets and that’s reflected in their record. The Mets had dropped eight of ten heading to Philadelphia but the team took out some frustration on the Phillies with a 10-0 victory on Thursday. New York starter Jacob deGrom improved to 13-5 with four hits allowed over 6.2 frames while striking out nine. The Mets racked up 13 hits and three walks with Wilmer Flores, Curtis Granderson, Michael Conforto and Neil Walker all going deep and combining for nine runs driven in and eight runs on ten hits. Right hander Seth Lugo toes the rubber for the New York Mets Friday when the team faces the Philadelphia Phillies. Lugo has dropped back to back starts after a 7-4 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers where he allowed three runs on four hits and two BB in 5.2 frames.

The Philadelphia Phillies are looking for a strong finish to the year and the offseason to determine what the team needs to add to the roster. The Phillies appeared to be heating up with three consecutive victories but the pitching and bats struggled in Friday night’s series opening loss to the rival Mets. Phils starter Vince Valesquez was charged with three runs in the first with Jesen Therrien and Luis Garcia each allowing a run in an inning of work. The Philadelphia attack was limited to four hits and a base on balls with four players logging hits. The Philadelphia Phillies are slated to send Nick Pivetta to the hill to oppose the New York Mets for the second time in 2017. Pivetta comes off of an 8-6 defeat at the Colorado Rockies with six runs given up on seven hits and a BB over 2.2 frames.
The over is 7-3 in New York last 10 road games and the over is 7-1-1 in Lugo’s last 9 starts on grass while the over is 7-1-1 in Lugo’s last 9 starts overall. Philadelphia are 6-18 in their last 24 Friday games and the under is 12-5-1 in Philadelphia last 18 home games while the under is 32-15-7 in Philadelphia last 54 overall. New York are 49-21 in the last 70 meetings and the over is 74-36-5 in the last 115 meetings.
The Phillies have struggled against the Mets but with the way each pitcher has allowed the long ball I think this could be a slugfest…
