The Pittsburgh Pirates open an interleague series at the Toronto Blue Jays in Friday MLB baseball action.
The Pittsburgh Pirates simply can’t afford losing too many games or their shot at winning the National League Central will be gone. That hasn’t been a problem for the Pirates as of late with wins in six of eight following a 7-5 victory at the Detroit Tigers on Thursday afternoon. Buccos starter Gerrit Cole gave up three runs on six hits and struck out seven over eight frames to improve to 10-8 before Juan Nicasio allowed two runs in the 9th in 1/3 of an inning. Pittsburgh pounded out 13 hits and walked twice with Sean Rodriguez going deep and driving in two while Josh Bell homered and knocked in three. The Pittsburgh Pirates are slated to start Jameson Taillson at the Toronto Blue Jays in an interleague bout. Taillson did not receive a decision last time out in a 5-4 win versus the San Diego Padres with two runs plated on five hits and a pair of BB in 6.1 frames.

The Toronto Blue Jays need a lot of wins to challenge for a Wild Card but stringing together wins has been difficult. The Blue Jays took a positive step in a 4-0 victory versus the New York Yankees behind strong work on the mound. Toronto starter Marco Estrada allowed five hits and a trio of bases on balls through seven innings of work to pick up the victory. The Blue Jays did their damage on five hits and four walks with Jose Bautista clubbing a solo home run and scoring twice while Josh Donaldson and Kevin Pillar recorded RBI’s. The Toronto Blue Jays are handing Friday’s start versus the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates to Marcus Stroman. Stroman comes off of a 7-6 loss (ND) at the Houston Astros where he gave up three runs (two earned) on eleven hits and two BB over 6.2 frames.
Pittsburgh are 9-22 in their last 31 games on astroturf and the under is 35-15-2 in Pittsburgh last 52 overall while Pittsburgh are 7-3 in Taillon’s last 10 road starts. Toronto are 1-8 in their last 9 Friday games and the over is 9-2-1 in Toronto last 12 interleague games while the over is 7-3 in Toronto last 10 overall. The over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings.
Taillon is capable but when he is on he is very good and just the opposite when he is off. Stroman is outstanding but I won’t lay the chalk with the Blue Jays and would rather walk away…
