The Kansas City Royals face off against the Chicago White Sox in game two of their three game AL Central division set from Guaranteed Rate Field on Saturday.
The Kansas City Royals desperately need a win after dropping 11 of their last 14 games following a 6-3 loss in the series opener on Friday. Mike Moustakas led the charge, going 2 for 4 with a pair of solo home runs. Alcides Escoabr went 2 for 4 with a double, while Melky Cabrera added a two-bagger of his own as Cheslor Cuthbert and Alex Gordon each chipped in base hits of their own in the loss. Danny Duffy gave up five runs on seven hits while striking out eight over 6.1 innings of work, falling to 7-8 this season. Ian Kennedy will start game two and is 4-8 with a 4.83 ERA and 97 strikeouts this season. In his career, Kennedy is 2-2 with a 4.70 ERA and 31 strikeouts against the White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox will look to stay hot after winning their fourth straight game, following up their sweep of the Astros with their series opening win on Friday. Tim Anderson and Yolmer Sanchez each put up two RBIs, with Anderson adding a home run while going 2 for 4 at the dish. Adam Engel went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a pair of triples while Kevan Smith went 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI to round out the scoring for the White Sox. Jose Abreu added a double as well, while Yoan Moncada, Leury Garcia and Nicky Delmonico added a base hit each in the winning effort. Reynaldo Lopez had a solid White Sox debut, giving up two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out six over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Aaron Bummer got the win to improve to 1-2 this season while Tyler Clippard notched his 3rd save of the year. James Shields will start game two and is 2-4 with a 6.03 ERA and 50 strikeouts this season. In his career, Shields is 7-2 with a 4.02 ERA and 65 strikeouts against Kansas City.
Kansas City is 8-1 in their last 9 division matchups and 6-2 in Kennedy’s last 8 road starts while the over is 9-0 in Kennedy’s last 9 division starts. Chicago is 6-2 in their last 8 home games and 3-8 in Shields’ last 11 division starts while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 Saturday games. Kansas City is 27-14 in the last 41 meetings between these two teams in Chicago.
Even though the White Sox have been rolling, I’m not about to put any money on James Shields, who has given up three or more runs in eight of his last nine starts, which includes six earned runs in every other start dating back to June 24th. You may want to put something small on Shields giving up six runs again here as well. All joking aside, I’m not sure I want to put money on the Royals either with how they’ve stunk up the joint as of late. Kennedy has given up 10 runs in his last 10 innings of work and has allowed four or more earned runs in three of his last four starts, so I think the over could easily cash in on Saturday.
