Over in LA at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers will be picking up their series once again.
In Friday’s opener, the Padres scored twice in the third inning and eked out a 4-3 win.
USA TODAY Sports
For the Saturday game, the Padres will be bringing out RHP Jhoulys Chacin for the start. In his 132.1 innings and 11-8 record this year, Chacin has a 4.15 ERA with 109 Ks and 48 BBs.
San Diego has some interesting hitters on board this season. Coming into this set, Wil Myers led the way on 99 hits, 57 runs, 23 homers and 56 RBI while Hunter Renfroe had 89 hits, 45 runs, 20 homers and 45 RBI. Myers came up empty Friday; Renfroe had one hit.
The Dodgers will be rolling out LHP Hyun-Jin Ryu for the start on Saturday. Over his 91.2 innings and 4-6 record this year, Ryu has a 3.53 ERA with 89 Ks and 26 BBs.
LA also has some powerful bats. Corey Seager led the way coming into this set with 121 hits, 72 runs, 19 homers and 55 RBI while Justin Turner had 108 hits, 53 runs, 15 homers and 50 RBI. Turner and Seager combined for two hits and a run on Friday.
The Padres are 4-1 in their last five Saturday games, and 6-1 in Chacin’ last seven starts. San Diego is also 4-1 in Chacin’s last five Saturday starts and 5-2 in Chacin’s last seven starts during game two of a series.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers are 37-16 in their last 53 Saturday games and 38-15 in their last 53 during game two of a series. Los Angeles is also 6-1 in Ryu’s last seven starts and 12-3 in Ryu’s last 15 starts in game two of a series.
Chacin has been all over the place lately, with zero earned on three hits in 7.0 innings against Minnesota then five earned in 6.0 innings on five hits in Cincinnati. As for Ryu, he’s been on a solid run lately, giving up zero earned on six hits in his last two starts, a span of 14.0 innings. I don’t make a habit of picking against the Dodgers lately, and I’m not about to start now despite the steep buy-in. Give me LA.
