The Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers take the field in Sunday afternoon MLB baseball action.
The Minnesota Twins are not going away in the American League Central race as the team has turned on the jets the last few weeks. The red hot Twins had won eight of ten before their pitching was hammered Saturday in a 12-11 defeat at the Detroit Tigers. Minnesota starter Jose Berrios was charged with six runs over 3.1 frames before Dillon Gee gave up three runs in three innings and Matt Belisle served up a two run walk bomb in the 9th. The Twins racked up 19 hits with Joe Mauer going deep and driving in five while Eddie Rosario and Byron Buxton each homered and knocked in two runs apiece. Veteran Ervin Santana is scheduled to be on the hill to oppose the division rival Detroit Tigers on Sunday. Santana did not receive a decision in a 5-4 win versus Milwaukee with are all four runs scoring (two earned) on six hits over six frames.

The Detroit Tigers have been struggling of late and need a reversal of fortunes. The Tigers had lost six of seven before the offense came to life and overcame the pitching Saturday night against the surging Minnesota Twins. Detroit starter Jordan Zimmermann was tagged for seven runs on eight hits through 3.1 innings pitched while Edward Mujica allowed three runs in two frames. Detroit pounded out 13 hits and walked twice with Justin Upton, Jose Iglesias and James McCann each going deep and combining for eight RBI’s and six runs on five hits. Matthew Boyd toes the rubber for the Detroit Tigers with the Minnesota Twins in town on Sunday afternoon. Boyd comes off of a 6-3 loss at the Pittsburgh Pirates where he allowed all six runs (five earned) on nine hits over four innings of work.
The over is 6-2 in Minnesota last 8 versus the American League Central while the over is 38-17-6 in Minnesota last 61 road games versus a team with a losing record. Detroit are 27-11 in their last 38 home games versus a team with a winning record and Detroit are 2-7 in their last 9 home games versus a team with a winning record while the over is 34-16-3 in Detroit last 53 versus the American League Central. The under is 8-3-2 in the last 13 meetings in Detroit.
I think Minnesota has an edge on hill and the team really has to win after Saturday’s bad loss…
