Up on the North Side at Wrigley Field on Monday, the Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago Cubs will be kicking off their MLB series.
The Reds are coming off a set against the Brewers this weekend. Cincinnati won on Friday but lost the Saturday and Sunday games.
USA TODAY Sports
For the Monday game, the Reds will be going with RHP Asher Wojciechowski. In his 44.2 innings and 3-1 record this year, Wojciechowski has a 4.23 ERA with 46 Ks.
Cincinnati has some solid hitters this year. Coming into this set, Joey Votto has 128 hits, 82 runs, 31 homers and 82 RBI, while Adam Duvall has 116 hits, 60 runs, 27 homers and 81 RBI.
Over on the Cubs’ side, they’re fresh off a set versus the Diamondbacks. The two teams split the first two games, then on Sunday the Cubs scored four runs in the eighth inning to ice a 7-2 victory and series win.
Chicago will be going with LHP Jose Quintana in the Monday game. Over his 134.1 innings and 6-10 record, Quintana has a 4.42 ERA with 143 Ks and 47 BBs.
Chicago also has some notable hitters. Kris Bryant brought 115 hits, 73 runs, 20 homers and 51 RBI into this week; Anthony Rizzo had 108 hits, 66 runs, 26 homers and 71 RBI. Bryant popped a solo homer with two runs on Sunday; Rizzo came up empty.
The Reds are 4-0 in their last four during game one of a series, and 23-55 int their last 78 games versus a left-handed starter. Cincinnati is also 1-4 in their last five Monday games, and 2-9 in their last 11 versus a team with a winning record.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 4-1 in their last five against the NL Central, and 11-4 in their last 15 games versus a team with a losing record. Chicago is also 1-4 in their last five home games and 35-16 in their last 51 Monday games.
Over his last pair of starts this month, Wojciechowski has allowed four earned on 10 hits in 10.2 innings. As for Quintana, he’s got four quality starts in his last five appearances and has been solid aside from a hiccup (six earned in 5.0 innings) against the Diamondbacks. I like Quintana to come out firing here and keep the Reds offense in check, so I’ll take the Cubs.
