Over at O.co Coliseum on Monday, the Kansas City Royals and the Oakland A’s will be kicking off their MLB series.
Kansas City is coming off a weekend set against the White Sox. The Royals lost on Friday but won both weekend games to take the series.
USA TODAY Sports
The Royals will be rolling with RHP Jake Junis on Monday. In his 44.0 innings and 4-2 record this year, Junis has a 4.70 ERA with 37 Ks.
Kansas City has some great hitters this year. Eric Hosmer leads the way with 140 hits, 72 runs, 19 homers and 62 RBI so far, while Lorenzo Cain is playing well also on 125 hits, 70 runs, 12 homers and 38 RBI.
As for the Athletics, they just finished up against the Orioles. Oakland lost on Thursday and Saturday but won Friday and Sunday for a split series.
The A’s will be going with RHP Jharel Cotton on Monday. In his 91.1 innings and 5-9 record this year, Cotton has a 5.72 ERA with 78 Ks.
Oakland has some big bats as well. Jed Lowrie sits atop the list with 114 hits, 60 runs, 10 homers and 40 RBI. Ryon Healy is close behind with 108 hits, 48 runs, 21 homers and 63 RBI.
The Royals are 1-5 in their last six overall and 1-5 in their last six versus a team with a losing record. Kansas City is also 1-6 in their last seven road games and 0-5 in their last five road games versus a team with a winning home record.
Meanwhile, the A’s are 7-1 in their last eight versus the AL Central and 1-4 in their last five overall. Oakland is also 1-4 in their last five Monday games and 1-5 in their last six home games.
Junis will be getting recalled from Triple-A for this start, replacing Trevor Cahill—who is injured. In Junis’ last start, he went 8.0 innings with four hits and one run versus the Mariners. As for Cotton, he lost to the Mariners on August 9, giving up six runs in 6.0 innings. I’m not thrilled about Cotton’s ability to pitch deep into this one, so I’ll go with the Royals for the win here.
