MLB baseball comes to Petco Park Monday when the San Diego Padres host the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to play respectable baseball while taking a look at some younger players. The Phillies struggles with the New York Mets continued Sunday in a 6-2 defeat that has the team looking at losses in three of four. Phils starter Zach Efflin was charged with four runs on seven hits including a pair of long balls to take the loss. Philadelphia banged out seven hits and walked five times with Rhys Hopkins driving in a run while Cesar Hernandez and Odubel Herrera scored. The Philadelphia Phillies hand Monday’s start at the San Diego Padres to right hander Jerad Eickhoff. Eickhoff comes in off of a 3-2 victory at the Atlanta Braves with both runs given up on nine hits and zero walks covering 6.2 innings of work.

The San Diego Padres are just trying to stay out of the National League West basement which means winning a few games going forward. The Padres have been struggling and those struggles continued Sunday in a 6-4 defeat at the rival Los Angeles Dodgers for loss number eight of eleven. SD starter Luis Perdomo fell to 6-7 with five runs given up on four hits (two homers) and a BB through six innings of work. The San Diego attack consisted of five hits and a base on balls with Corey Spangenberg clubbing a pair of long balls and driving in three while Wil Myers cracked a sacrifice fly. The San Diego Padres have tabbed Travis Wood as the starter versus the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. Wood comes off of an 8-3 road loss to the Cincinnati Reds where he allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and four BB in five frames.
The under is 5-1-2 in Philadelphia last 8 road games and Philadelphia are 20-50 in their last 70 road games while Philadelphia are 13-29 in their last 42 Monday games. The over is 13-3 in the last 16 meetings in San Diego and Philadelphia are 25-8 in the last 33 meetings in San Diego.
Eickhoff has been throwing the ball well and is the Phillies second best pitcher so I’ll back the Phillies…
