The Detroit Tigers visit the Texas Rangers in a Monday night MLB baseball match up.
The Detroit Tigers know their season doesn’t include the postseason but the team can be a huge spoiler the rest of the way. The Tigers weren’t a spoiler Sunday as the red hot Minnesota Twins walked away with a 6-4 victory which has Detroit staring at defeats in seven of nine. Detroit starter Matthew Boyd was charged with four runs on six hits and a trio of free passes over 5.2 frames before Bruce Rondon allowed two 8th inning runs to absorb the loss. The Tigers posted ten hits and three bases on balls with John Hicks recording an RBI while Nicholas Castellanos went 2-5 with a run scoring single and a run. The Detroit Tigers are sending Michael Fulmer to the hill to face the Texas Rangers although he will be on a pitch count as he rehabs an ulnar nerve problem. Overall, Fulmer has gone 10-9 in 21 2017 starts with a 3.59 ERA covering 140.1 innings.

The Texas Rangers are still in the running for a Wild Card although the team needs to get above .500. The Rangers had been heading in the right direction with three consecutive victories before suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the visiting Houston Astros on Sunday. Texas starter Andrew Cashner allowed both runs on six hits and a base on balls through 6.1 innings of work which turned out to be a losing effort with the offense going silent. The Rangers totaled seven hits and five walks with Adrian Beltre supplying the offense with his 12 homer of the season. The Texas Rangers have scheduled AJ Griffin to face the Detroit Tigers for the second time this season. Griffin comes off of a 5-4 loss to the visiting New York Mets where he was charged with four runs on four hits including three homers in five frames.
Detroit are 2-6 in their last 8 overall and Detroit are 2-6 in their last 8 games on grass while the under is 13-5 in Detroit last 18 Monday games. Texas are 1-10 in their last 11 Monday games and Texas are 10-3 in Griffin’s last 13 starts while Texas are 21-7 in Griffin’s last 28 starts on grass. Detroit are 4-11 in the last 15 meetings.
The way Griffin has fared in this match up says back Fulmer and Detroit completely but the Tigers are using this as a rehab start for Fulmer so he could be gone by the third if he reaches an unknown pitch count. What I’m saying is this might be a guessing game for bettors…
