Out at O.co Coliseum on Tuesday, the Kansas City Royals and the Oakland Athletics will be continuing their MLB series.
In the Monday opener, the Royals scored four times in the sixth inning on the way to a 6-2 win.
USA TODAY Sports
For the Tuesday game, the Royals will be bringing out RHP Jason Hammel. In his 130.2 innings and 5-9 record this year, Hammel has a 4.68 ERA with 103 Ks and 38 BBs.
Kansas City has some big hitters this year. Eric Hosmer led the way coming in with 140 hits, 72 runs, 19 homers and 62 RBI, while Lorenzo Cain brought 125 hits, 70 runs, 12 homers and 38 RBI. On Monday, Cain and Hosmer combined for two hits, a run and an RBI.
Over on the A’s side, they’re rolling with RHP Chris Smith on Tuesday. In his 34.0 innings and 0-2 record this year, Smith has a 5.29 ERA with 19 Ks and 12 BBs.
Oakland has some solid bats as well. Jed Lowrie came into this set with 114 hits, 60 runs, 10 homers and 40 RBI, while Ryon Healy had 110 hits, 49 runs, 21 homers and 64 RBI. In Monday’s game, Healy had a hit and an RBI; Lowrie sat out.
The Royals are 2-5 in their last seven Tuesday games, and 1-4 in their last five during game two of a series. Kansas City is also 7-16 in Hammel’s last 23 starts and 0-5 in Hammel’s last five starts versus the AL West.
Meanwhile, the A’s are 0-4 in their last four Tuesday games and the under is 4-1-1 in Oakland’s last six during game two of a series. The under is 4-0-1 in Smith’s last five starts and 3-0-1 in Smith’s last four starts on grass.
Hammel had a run of nine earned in 19.0 innings over three starts, then logged 5.0 innings with three hits and two earned in St. Louis. As for Smith, he’s given up nine earned on 14 hits over his last two starts in 11.0 innings. I don’t have a whole lot of faith in Smith right now, so I’m not hesitating to pick the Royals for the win here.
