Over at Petco Park on Tuesday, the Philadelphia Phillies and the San Diego Padres will be continuing their MLB series.
In Monday’s opener, the Padres scored four runs in the sixth and hammered out a 7-4 victory.
USA TODAY Sports
The Phillies will be going with RHP Mark Leiter in the start for Tuesday’s game in place of Vincent Velasquez. In his 46.1 innings and 1-2 record this year, Leiter has a 4.08 ERA with 45 Ks.
Philadelphia has a few key bats this season. Coming into this set, Odubel Herrera had 123 hits, 51 runs, 12 homers and 45 RBI while Freddy Galvis had 112 hits, 49 runs, 11 homers and 49 RBI. On Monday, Herrera and Galvis combined for four hits and an RBI.
Over on the Padres’ side, they’re going with RHP Donelson Lamet on Tuesday. In his 68.1 innings and 6-4 record this year, Lamet has a 5.00 ERA with 85 Ks and 28 BBs.
San Diego has a few key hitters also. Heading into this set, Wil Myers was in the top spot with 101 hits, 58 runs, 24 homers and 58 RBI; Manuel Margot had 92 hits, 35 runs, 12 homers and 30 RBI. Myers and Margot each plated a run on Monday but had no hits.
The Phillies are 19-40 in their last 59 during game two of a series and 4-10 in their last 14 Tuesday games. The under is 4-0-1 in Philly’s last five Tuesday games and 8-3 in the Phillies’ last 11 during game two of a series.
Meanwhile, the Padres are 17-38 in their last 55 Tuesday games and 5-1 in Lamet’s last six starts during game two of a series. San Diego is also 5-1 in Lamet’s last six starts versus a team with a losing record and 4-1 in Lamet’s last five home starts.
Over his last four starts, Lamet has been pretty solid. In that span, he’s given up a total of six earned on 14 hits over a period of 23.1 innings. In Lamet’s last three starts, he’s surrendered just six hits overall. I like Lamet to keep it going here and put the Padres in position to win here, so I’ll take San Diego to eke one out.
