The Cincinnati Reds visit Wrigley Field to take on the Chicago Cubs in game three of their four game NL Central division set on Wednesday.
The Cincinnati Reds will look to build on a 2-1 victory on Tuesday to even up the series at one win apiece. Billy Hamilton went 2 for 5 with an RBI while Scooter Gennett opened the scoring for Cincinnati with a sac fly RBI in the top of the 8th. Jesse Winker went 2 for 3 at the dish while Jose Peraza added a pinch-hit double and Zack Cozart, along with Adam Duvall and Eugenio Suarez, added a base hit in the win. Luis Castillo threw six innings of two hit, shutout baseball, walking a pair and striking out seven, not factoring in the decision. Michael Lorenzen got the win to improve to 7-2 this season, while Raisel Iglesias made Reds faithful sweat it out, giving up an RBI single before closing things out for his 21st save of the year. Homer Bailey will start game three and is 4-6 with an 8.31 ERA and 31 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bailey is 8-3 with a 4.37 ERA and 85 strikeouts against the Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs will look to bounce back after dropping game two on Tuesday. Ben Zobrist accounted for the lone Cubs run, with a pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the 9th as Chicago fell just short. Albert Almora Jr. went 2 for 3 while Anthony Rizzo, Victor Caratini, Kyle Schwarber and Jason Heyward added base hits of their own in the loss, as none of the Cubs’ seven hits as a team went for extra bases. Kyle Hendricks also threw six innings of shutout baseball, giving up just five hits while walking four and striking out six. Pedro Strop took the loss, falling to 3-3 this season. John Lackey will start game three and is 10-9 with a 4.82 ERA and 109 strikeouts this season. In his career, Lackey is 6-5 with a 3.90 ERA and 78 strikeouts against Cincinnati.
Cincinnati is 3-10 in Bailey’s last 13 starts and 15-38 in their last 53 road games while the over is 9-1 in their last 10 games overall. Chicago is 6-0 in Lackey’s last 6 starts and 12-4 in their last 16 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 5-1-1 in their last 7 division matchups. Cincinnati is 10-2 in Bailey’s last 12 starts against Chicago.
Bailey and the Reds have had a lot of success when he takes the mound against the Cubs, however Lackey is flat out rolling right now, winning his last five starts with Chicago winning his last six overall. The Cubs’ offense is too talented to be held down for two games in a row, so I’ll take the Cubs for a bounce back win here.
