The Houston Astros and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet in game three of a four game home-and-home interleague set from Minute Maid Park on Wednesday.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last five games, including a 9-4 loss in game two on Tuesday. Jake Lamb led the charge by going 1 for 4 with a double and two RBIs in the loss. Paul Goldschmidt added a double of his own, going 2 for 4 with an RBI and Brandon Drury rounded out the scoring with an RBI despite going 0 for 2 on the day. A.J. Pollock also added a double and Ketel Marte had a pair of base hits while Chris Iannetta and Daniel Descalso each added base hits of their own in the loss. Anthony Banda took the loss, falling to 1-3 this season after giving up eight runs on nine hits while walking and striking out three apiece over just four innings of work. The Houston Astros will look to build on their win in game two on Tuesday when they head home on Wednesday. In the win on Tuesday, three different Astros recorded two RBIs, with Max Stassi leading the way, going 2 for 4 with a home run and a double. George Springer and starting pitcher Brad Peacock also added a pair of runs, with each recording a double as well. Alex Bregman and Yuli Gurriel each went 2 for 5 with a triple and an RBI, while Jose Altuve went 2 for 4 with a double of his own. J.D. Davis also added a two-bagger, while Jake Marisnick and Jose Reddick chipped in base hits of their own in the win. Speaking of Peacock, he gave up all four runs on seven hits while striking out nine over 4.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Francis Martes picked up the win to move to 5-2 this season. Charlie Morton, will start game three and is 9-5 with a 3.83 ERA and 110 strikeouts this season. In his career, Morton is 3-1 with a 3.97 ERA and 29 strikeouts against Arizona.
Arizona is 7-1 in their last 8 interleague games and 0-6 in Walker’s last 6 starts while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 interleague road games. Houston is 2-6 in their last 8 road games and 57-28 in their last 85 games against a right-handed starter while the under is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games overall. Arizona is 2-5 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams in Houston.
This is probably a game to stay far away from, given the recent form of both teams. However, if forced to pick, Arizona is a good team that’s most likely gonna end up in the wild card game, but they haven’t won any of Walker’s last 6 starts. Houston isn’t a world-beater with Morton on the mound, but the ‘Stros do some of their best work at home and should be able to pick up another win here.
