The San Francisco Giants take on the Miami Marlins in the rubber match of their three game set from Marlins Park on Wednesday.
The San Francisco Giants will look to build on their 9-4 victory in game two on Tuesday that evened the series up at one win apiece. Denard Span led the charge, going 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. Hunter Pence added two RBIs of his own, going 1 for 4 with a double, while Ryder Jones went 2 for 4 with a solo home run and a double. Carlos Moncrief and starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner each notched an RBI, while Buster Posey, Kelby Tomlinson and Jarrett Parker each contributed base hits in the win. Speaking of Bumgarner, he got the win to improve to 3-5 this season after giving up all four runs on nine hits while striking out four over six innings of work. Matt Cain will start game three and is 3-9 with a 5.22 ERA and 61 strikeouts this season. In his career, Cain is 6-5 with a 3.63 ERA and 84 strikeouts against Miami.

The Miami Marlins will look to bounce back after dropping game two on Tuesday. Giancarlo Stanton continued his home run tear, going yard for the 6th straight game with his 44th homer of the season, a solo shot as part of his 2 for 4 day at the dish. Christian Yelich and J.T. Realmuto each had a pair of base hits with a double and an RBI respectively. A.J. Ellis added a solo shot of his own to round out the scoring for the Fish in the loss. Marcell Ozuna went 2 for 4 while Derek Dietrich, Miguel Rojas and Ichiro Suzuki added base hits of their own in the losing effort. Dan Straily gave up three runs on five hits while walking a pair and striking out three over five innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Junichi Tazawa failed to retire a batter, giving up three runs on four hits, taking the loss to fall to 2-3 this season. Jose Urena will start the finale and is 10-5 with a 3.76 ERA and 82 strikeouts this season. In his career, Urena is 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA and 4 strikeouts against San Francisco.
San Francisco is 20-43 in their last 63 road games and 8-24 in Cain’s last 32 road starts while the over is 12-3-1 in their last 16 games against a team with a losing record. Miami is 4-1 in Urena’s last 5 starts and 6-1 in their last 7 home games while the under is 3-1-2 in Urena’s last 6 home starts. San Francisco is just 1-4 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
San Francisco can always win a game with Bumgarner on the mound, now the rest of the pitching staff? That’s the real question. The problem on Wednesday is that Cain is always a liability to be lit up like a Christmas tree, and with sluggers like Stanton on the other side, things could get ugly early as I think the Marlins win this one handily.
