The Toronto Blue Jays host the Tampa Bay Rays in game three of a crucial four game AL East division set on Wednesday.
The Tampa Bay Rays will look to build on their game two 6-4 victory that evened the series up at one game apiece, while snapping a four game losing skid. Lucas Duda went 1 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs while Wilson Ramos went 3 for 4 with a solo home run. Daniel Robertson went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI while Adeiny Hechavarria added a double and an RBI of his own. Corey Dickerson added an RBI to round out the scoring for the Rays, while Logan Morrison and Steven Souza Jr. each added a pair of base hits. Evan Longoria also added a base knock of his own in the win. Blake Snell finally got his first win of the season, improving to 1-6 this season after giving up all four runs on seven hits while striking out four over six innings of work. The Rays’ bullpen was nearly perfect, giving up just one hit over the remaining three innings, culminating with Alex Colome striking out a pair in the scoreless 9th for his 35th save of the season. Jacob Faria will start game three and is 5-3 with a 3.19 ERA and 74 strikeouts this season. In his career, Faria is 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA and 8 strikeouts against Toronto.

The Toronto Blue Jays will look to bounce back after dropping game two on Tuesday. Josh Donaldson led the charge by going 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, while Kevin Pillar put up the other Toronto run, going 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Jose Bautista added a double of his own while Justin Smoak, Steve Pearce and Darwin Barney added base hits in the loss. Marco Estrada gave up all six runs on ten hits while walking four and striking out three over 4.1 innings of work to fall to 5-8 this season. Marcus Stroman will start game three and is 10-6 with a 3.00 ERA and 124 strikeouts this season. In his career, Stroman is 4-4 with a 4.17 ERA and 48 strikeouts against Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay is 1-6 in their last 7 division matchups and 5-1 in Faria’s last 6 road starts while the under is 21-7-2 in their last 30 games overall. Toronto is 7-2 in Stroman’s last 9 home starts and 4-1 in their last 5 division matchups while the under is 3-0-1 in Stroman’s last 4 division starts. Toronto is 0-4 in Stroman’s last 4 home starts against Tampa Bay.
Faria was on fire to start the year, but has taken back-to-back losses after getting literally zero run support in those two losses. Last time I checked, it’s hard to win a baseball game when you put zero runs on the board. The Jays need to keep winning if they’re going to track teams down in the wild card race, and Toronto seems to rally behind Stroman so I’ll back the Jays to regain the series lead with a win here.
