In the Monday opener, the Tigers eked out a 4-3 win despite getting out-hit 13-9.

For the Tuesday game, the Tigers will be rolling out RHP Michael Fulmer for the start. In his 158.1 innings and 10-11 record this year, Fulmer has a 3.69 ERA with 111 Ks and 39 BBs.

The Tigers have a few key bats this year. Justin Upton entered this series with 125 hits, 79 runs, 28 homers and 93 RBI while Nick Castellanos had 118 hits, 61 runs, 18 homers and 72 RBI. Castellanos ripped three hits with three RBI on Monday; Updon had a double, an RBI and a run.

The Rockies are set to be going with RHP German Marquez on Tuesday. In his 125.0 innings and 10-5 record this year, Marquez has a 4.18 ERA with 115 Ks.

The Rockies have some notable hitters as well. Carlos Blackmon led the way coming into this series with 177 hits, 117 runs, 31 homers and 82 RBI while Nolan Arenado managed 154 hits, 81 runs, 29 homers and 108 RBI in that time. Arena do had a hit on Monday; Blackmon slapped three hits with an RBI.

The Tigers are 1-4 in their last five Tuesday games and 3-7 in Fulmer’s last 10 starts in game two of a series. Detroit is also 1-5 in Fulmer’s last six starts and 1-6 in Fulmer’s last seven road starts.

Meanwhile, the Rockies are 1-4 in their last five during game two of a series and 1-4 in their last five Tuesday games. Colorado is also 7-2 in Marquez’s last nine starts and 8-3 in Marquez’s last 11 starts with four days’ rest.

After a nice run last month, Fulmer has stumbled lately. He’s given up four or more earned in four of his last six starts, and has just two quality starts in that span. As for Marquez, he is 5-1 in his past 10 games, and Colorado is 7-3 in that time. I expect Marquez to give up a homer or two here, but still keep the Rockies in position to win. I’ll take Colorado.
