The Line: Milwaukee Brewers / St. Louis Cardinals --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers face off in a critical two game NL Central division set from Miller Park on Tuesday night.
The St. Louis Cardinals will try to snap out of a funk after dropping six of their last eight games following a 3-2 loss to the Rays in their series finale on Sunday. Matt Carpenter and Kolten Wong each hit a solo home run to make up the pair of Cardinals runs in defeat, while Greg Garcia went 3 for 4 with a double. Tommy Pham, Paul DeJong, Dexter Fowler and Yadier Molina each contributed base hits in the losing effort for St. Louis. Lance Lynn gave up a pair of runs on six hits while walking three and striking out eight over seven innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Sam Tuivailala gave up the game-deciding run in the 10th, taking the loss to fall to 3-3 this season. Luke Weaver will start the opening game and is 2-1 with a 2.31 ERA and 26 strikeouts this season. In his career, Weaver is 1-1 with a 2.95 ERA and 26 strikeouts against Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Brewers will look to build on a solid pair of victories to close out their series with the Dodgers, including a 3-2 win in the finale on Sunday. Hernan Perez belted a solo homer while Travis Shaw added a double and an RBI along with Domingo Santana who added an RBI of his own while going 2 for 4 to round out the scoring for Milwaukee in the win. Eric Sogard added a double, while Neil Walker, Stephen Vogt and starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson added base hits of their own in the win. Nelson got the win after allowing both runs on four hits while walking a pair and striking out six over 6.2 innings of work to improve to 10-6 this season. Corey Knebel struck out a pair in the 9th for his 29th save of the season. Matt Garza will start the opener and is 6-7 with a 4.67 ERA and 73 strikeouts this season. In his career, Garza is 7-5 with a 4.01 ERA and 77 strikeouts against St. Louis.
St. Louis is 10-21 in their last 31 division matchups and 12-27 in their last 39 road games against a team with a winning home record while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record. Milwaukee is 2-5 in Garza’s last 7 starts and 4-0 in their last 4 division matchups while the under is 40-15-3 in their last 58 games overall. St. Louis is 40-17 in the last 57 meetings between these two teams in Milwaukee.
Both of those teams could definitely use the win as the wild card chases are heating up. Hoever, the Brewers have won five of the last six meetings between these two and even though Weaver has allowed six runs in his three career starts against Milwaukee, Garza has gotten the win in each of his last three starts against the Cards, including both starts this season. Not to mention the Brew Crew are coming off of those big wins against the Dodgers which has to give them some momentum, so I’ll back Milwaukee to draw first blood here.
