The Tampa Bay Rays and the Kansas City Royals will be finishing up their MLB series at Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday.
The Rays bagged a 12-0 blowout win on Monday. In the Tuesday game, the Royals managed a 6-2 victory.
USA TODAY Sports
For the Wednesday game, the Rays will be bringing out RHP Jake Odorizzi on Wednesday. In his 112.0 innings and 6-7 record this year, Odorizzi has a 4.82 ERA with 94 Ks and 49 BBs.
Tampa has some interesting hitters this year. Corey Dickerson brought 147 hits, 75 runs, 25 homers and 58 RBI into Tuesday, while Evan Longoria had 135 hits, 63 runs, 17 homers and 71 RBI. Longoria had one hit on Tuesday; Dickerson had one hit as well.
Over on the Royals’ side, they’re going with LHP Jason Vargas on Wednesday. In his 145.1 innings and 14-8 record this year, Vargas has a 3.72 ERA with 111 Ks and 44 BBs.
The Royals have some solid bats as well. Eric Hosmer entered Tuesday with 157 hits, 78 runs, 21 homers and 73 RBI, while Lorenzo Cain had 140 hits, 73 runs, 13 homers and 41 RBI. Cain posted two hits and a run on Tuesday; Hosmer had a three-run homer.
The Rays are 5-2 in the last seven during game three of a series and 2-6 in their last eight Wednesday games. Tampa Bay is also 5-2 in Odorizzi’s last seven Wednesday starts and 1-4 in Odorizzi’s last five starts.
Meanwhile, the Royals are 9-2 in the last 11 Wednesday games and 6-1 in Vargas’ last seven starts with four days’ rest. Kansas City is also 15-5 in Vargas’ last 20 home starts and 9-3 in Vargas’ last 12 Wednesday starts.
After coughing up seven earned on eight hits in 3.2 innings against the Mariners, Odorizzi posted three earned on three hits in 3.2 innings in St. Louis his last time up. As for Vargas, he’s given up eight earned on 12 hits over 9.2 innings in his last two starts and is just 1-4 in his last five outings. In those losses, the Royals have scored a grand total of three runs. Still, I like KC to jump on Odorizzi here so I’ll take the Royals for the victory.
