The Chicago White Sox and the Minnesota Twins meet in game two of their three game AL Central division set from Target Field on Wednesday.
The Chicago White Sox will look to even up the series after dropping the opener by a 6-4 final score in Tuesday’s opener. Jose Abreu led the charge by going a perfect 4 for 4 at the dish with a double and two RBIs, while Yolmer Sanchez and Avisail Garcia contributed an RBI to round out the White Sox scoring in the loss with Garcia adding a double. Tim Anderson went 2 for 4 with a double while Kevan Smith added a two-bagger of his own and Tyler Saladino chipped in a base hit as well in the losing effort. James Shields took the loss to fall to 2-5 this season after giving up four runs on five hits while walking five and striking out three over five innings of work. Derek Holland will start game two and is 7-13 with a 6.05 ERA and 99 strikeouts this season. In his career, Holland is 3-6 with a 5.29 ERA and 53 strikeouts against Minnesota.

The Minnesota Twins will look to build on their series opening win on Tuesday that gave the Twins their third win in their last four games. Jorge Polanco led the way, going 2 for 3 with a pair of solo homers, while Eduardo Escobar added a pair of RBIs of his own in the win. Eddie Rosario and Byron Buxton also chipped in a run each, while Max Kepler added a double and Kennys Vargas along with Joe Mauer added a base hit each in the win for the Twins. Ervin Santana got the win, giving up three runs on seven hits while walking a pair and striking out seven over 6.2 innings of work to improve to 14-7 this season. Matt Belisle closed things down in the 9th despite giving up a run for his 5th save of the season. Jose Berrios will start game two and is 11-6 with a 4.04 ERA and 104 strikeouts this season. In his career, Berrios is 2-1 with a 2.95 ERA and 20 strikeouts against the White Sox.
Chicago is 3-13 in Holland’s last 16 starts and 14-37 in their last 51 road games while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 games overall. Minnesota is 6-0 in Berrios’ last 6 home starts and 15-7 in their last 22 games overall while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games against a team with a losing record. The under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams in Minnesota.
Holland may have got the win against the Twins last time out, but I’m thinking of that more of a flash in the pan as he still has a career ERA north of five against the Twins and had allowed 14 earned in just over four innings of his previous two starts before that. Berrios fell to the White Sox in his last outing but he has been a more reliable option overall this season and the Twins need the wins down the stretch to contend for a wild card spot so I think they get another big win here.
