The Atlanta Braves and the Chicago Cubs meet on Thursday to kick off a four game set from Wrigley Field.

The Atlanta Braves will look to build some steam after winning both halves of a double-header, including a 5-2 win in the finale. Freddie Freeman, Matt Kemp and David Freitas all contributed a double and an RBI while Ender Inciarte went 3 for 5 with an RBI of his own and Dansby Swanson went 2 for 4 with a run as well to round out the scoring for the Braves in the win. Nick Markakis went 2 for 3 with a double while Ozzie Albies and starting pitcher Julio Teheran added base hits in the winning effort for Atlanta. Speaking of Teheran, he gave up one run on five hits while striking out eight over 6.2 innings of work to improve to 9-11 this season. Arodys Vizcaino gave up a run in the 9th but closed things down to get his 9th save of the year. Sean Newcomb will start the opener and is 2-7 with a 4.36 ERA and 76 strikeouts this season. The Chicago Cubs will look to build after walloping the Pirates by a final score of 17-3 in their series finale on Wednesday, completing the sweep in the process. Kyle Schwarber led the charge, going 2 for 6 with a pair of two run homers and four RBIs, while Ian Happ added four RBIs of his own, going 3 for 5 with a solo shot and a double. Javier Baez and Anthony Rizzo each added two RBIs, while Rizzo hit a solo homer and Baez added a double. Jon Jay, Jason Heyward, Tommy La Stella and starting pitcher Jose Quintana all chipped in RBIs in the win, while Kris Bryant and Rene Rivera each added three base hits. Albert Almora Jr. also contributed a pinch hit in the winning effort for the Cubbies. Speaking of Quintana, he got the win to improve to 9-11 this season after giving up all three runs on four hits while striking out nine over six innings of work. Kyle Hendricks will start the opener and is 5-4 with a 3.45 ERA and 89 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hendricks is 0-0 with a 2.84 ERA and 13 strikeouts against Atlanta.

Atlanta is 8-13 in their last 21 games overall and 2-4 in their last 6 games against the NL Central while the under is 5-3 in their last 8 games overall. Chicago is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 6-0 in their last 6 home games while the under is 5-2 in Hendricks’ last 7 starts overall. Chicago is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

Chicago is swinging as hot of a bat as any right now, and that’s not good for Atlanta considering Newcomb has struggled in his lone meeting with the Cubs this season. Chicago is fighting off the Cardinals and Brewers right now while the Braves have mailed in the season, so I expect Chicago to come out firing and win this game by a couple of runs, which is why I’ll take the Cubs on the run line to negate the heavy juice.
