Out at Oriole Park on Friday, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles will be continuing their MLB series.
In the Thursday opener, the Blue Jays scored five runs in the fifth inning on the way to a 11-8 win that snapped the O’s win streak.
USA TODAY Sports
For the Friday game, the Blue Jays will be bringing out RHP Joe Biagini. In his 90.0 innings and 3-9 record this year, Biagini has a 5.40 ERA with 77 Ks and 32 BBs.
Toronto has a few hitters of note this year. Justin Smoak entered this series with 134 hits, 76 runs, 36 homers and 84 RBI while Kevin Pillar managed 123 hits, 60 runs, 13 homers and 34 RBI in that time. Pillar posted two hits and two RBI on Thursday; Smoak is out with a sore calf.
The Orioles will be going with RHP Kevin Gausman on Friday. In his 151.2 innings and 10-9 record this year, Gausman has a 4.98 ERA with 140 Ks and 63 BBs.
Baltimore has some solid bats as well. Jonathan Schoop came into this series with 154 hits, 81 runs, 30 homers and 99 RBI while Adam Jones had 144 hits, 74 runs, 25 homers and 66 RBI. In the Thursday game, Jones homered with two runs and two RBI; Schoop had two hits, a run and an RBI.
The Blue Jays are 1-11 in their last 12 Friday games and 0-4 in their last four games versus a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30. Toronto is also 1-7 in Biagini’s last eight starts and 2-6 in their last eight road games.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are 2-6 in their last eight during game two of a series and 2-10 in their last 12 Friday games. Baltimore is also 2-5 in Gausman’s last seven home starts and 1-15 in Gausman’s last 16 Friday starts.
In his last start at home against Minnesota, Biagini gave up five earned on nine hits in 3.2 innings. That gives him eight earned total over his last 4.1 innings. As for Gausman, he coughed up five earned in 4.0 innings against the Angels, but came back with zero earned in 7.2 innings against the Red Sox. All things considered I like Gausman to come out strong here and help the Orioles get a win.
