A pair of NL Wild Card hopefuls do battle on Friday as the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies kick off a three game set from Coors Field.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to stay hot after winning seven straight and nine of their last ten following an 8-1 win over the Dodgers in their series finale on Thursday, completing the three game sweep. Chris Iannetta and A.J. Pollock each had a home run and two RBIs, while Paul Goldschmidt and Gregor Blanco each contributed a pair of doubles, with Goldy adding two RBIs and Blanco adding one. Daniel Descalso added an RBI to round out the scoring for the D-Backs. Zack Greinke got the win to improve to 16-6 this season, giving up just the one run on four hits while walking a pair and striking out six over six innings of work. Taijuan Walker will start the opener and is 7-7 with a 3.55 ERA and 110 strikeouts this season. In his career, Walker is 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA and 22 strikeouts against Colorado.

The Colorado Rockies will look to bounce back after dropping their series with the Tigers following a 6-2 loss in the series finale on Wednesday. Charlie Blackmon hit a solo homer while Trevor story added an RBI double, rounding out the scoring for the Rockies in the loss. DJ LeMahieu went 2 for 4 while Carlos Gonzalez and Tony Wolters added base hits of their own as the Rockies mustered up just six hits as a team in the loss. Chad Bettis took the loss, falling to 0-2 this season, giving up five runs on seven hits while walking a pair and striking out four over five innings of work. Kyle Freeland will start the opener and is 11-8 with a 3.81 ERA and 94 strikeouts this season. In his career, Freeland is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA and 2 strikeouts against Arizona.
Arizona is 7-0 in their last 7 games overall and 4-1 in Walker’s last 5 division starts while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record. Colorado is 4-10 in their last 14 division matchups and 5-2 in Freeland’s last 7 starts while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 home games. Arizona is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
Colorado is always a tough out at home, but the value here is written all over Arizona. We are getting a red-hot D-Backs team with a very low line, and even though Walker had struggled recently, he looks like he’s turned a corner, giving up just one run in his last two starts. Freeland may be the team leader in wins and ERA, but he gave up four runs in his last start and the Rockies as a whole have struggled since the all-star break, so I’ll take the D-backs here.
