The Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers meet in the second half of an AL Central double-header on Friday evening.
The Cleveland Indians will look to take the double-header to build on their seven game winning streak heading into game one on Friday afternoon. The Tribe made it seven straight with a 9-4 win over the Yankees in the second half of their own double-header on Wednesday. Yan Gomes went 1 for 5 with a two run homer, while Edwin Encarnacion and Francisco Lindor each belted a solo homer, with EE putting up a pair of RBIs. Yandy Diaz also added a pair of runs, while Austin Jackson and Carlos Santana each contributed a double and an RBI as well. Erik Gonzalez chipped in a double as well while Brandon Guyer added a base hit of his own in the win for Cleveland. Ryan Merritt got the win to improve to 2-0 this season after allowing just one run on five hits over 5.1 innings of work. Mike Clevinger will start the second half of the double-header and is 7-5 with a 3.72 ERA and 108 strikeouts this season. In his career, Clevinger is 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA and 14 strikeouts against Detroit.

The Detroit Tigers will look to string some pride wins together down the stretch and did just that in their series finale against the Rockies, taking the third game by a final score of 6-2 on Wednesday. James McCann led the way, going 1 for 4 with a three run home run, While Nick Castellanos went 3 for 5 with a solo homer and a double. Justin Verlander added an RBI single to help his own cause, opening the scoring for Detroit in the 2nd inning. Jose Iglesias went a perfect 3 for 3 while Dixon Machado, Justin Upton and John Hicks each added a base hit of their own in the win. Speaking of Verlander, he improved to 10-8, getting the win after allowing just one run on three hits while striking out nine over six innings of work. Buck Farmer will get the nod here and is 3-1 with a 6.17 ERA and 25 strikeouts this season. In his career, Farmer is 0-2 with a 7.20 ERA and 13 strikeouts against Cleveland.
Cleveland is 7-2 in their last 9 division matchups and 7-0 in their last 7 games overall while the under is 8-5-1 in their last 14 road games. Detroit is 2-7 in their last 9 division matchups and 7-17 in their last 24 games overall while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 games overall. Cleveland is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
It’s always hard to judge the second half of a double-header without seeing the first, but taking a second look, the Tribe have the advantage on the mound and that alone is enough to push me towards Cleveland. The Indians are red hot at the right time and will look to finish the stretch strong, and I think they get at least a split of the double-header with a win to close out the night.
