The Cincinnati Reds go on the road to open a series with the Pittsburgh Pirates in a MLB tilt.
The Cincinnati Reds have not been the model of consistency or very predictable which means nothing should be surprising when this team wins or loses. That makes Thursday’s 7-2 victory over Jacob deGrom and the New York Mets not so eye popping because you never know with this group. Cinci starter Robert Stephenson allowed both runs on five hits and three BB over six innings to improve to 3-4. The Reds posted nine hits and four walks with Joey Votto going solo while Scooter Gennett and Stuart Turner both went deep and combined to knock in five runs. The Cincinnati Reds have slated right hander Luis Castillo for Friday’s start at the Pittsburgh Pirates. Castillo has dropped back to back contests after a 1-0 defeat to the Pirates with the lone run scoring on three hits and a walk in seven frames.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have reached the make or break point of the season where the team makes a last ditch push in the National League Central or doesn't. That didn’t happen Wednesday with the Pirates taking one on the chin by a 17-3 count to the division leading Cubs. Buccos starter Ivan Nova was charged with five runs (four earned) over three frame before four relievers combined to allow 12 runs. The Pittsburgh offense mustered six hits with Josh Bell going deep while Jordy Mercer and David Frees both drove in first inning runs for a short lived 2-0 lead. Right hander Gerrit Cole toes the rubber for the Pittsburgh Pirates against the Cincinnati Reds who he opposes for the second straight time. Cole defeated Cincinnati 1-0 on five hits while striking out six through seven innings of work.
The over is 7-3 in Cincinnati last 10 road games and the over is 16-7 in Cincinnati last 23 overall while the over is 16-7 in Cincinnati last 23 on grass. Pittsburgh are 5-13 in their last 18 overall and the under is 24-11-1 in Pittsburgh last 36 home games while Pittsburgh are 15-5 in Cole’s last 20 Friday starts. Pittsburgh are 1-9 in Cole’s last 10 starts versus Cincinnati and Cincinnati are 8-1 in the last 9 meetings in Pittsburgh.
Neither team has been winning so like I said above about Cincinnati probably applies in a game I wouldn’t lay chalk if I was forced to bet it…
