The Tampa Bay Rays and the Chicago White Sox face off in game two of their three game set from Guaranteed Rate Field on Saturday.
The Tampa Bay Rays will look to keep the momentum going after winning seven of their last ten games following their 3-1 win over the White Sox in the opener on Friday. Logan Morrison did all of the damage on the board for the Rays in the win, going 3 for 4 with a two run homer and an RBI single to make up Tampa Bay’s three runs in the win. Kevin Kiermaier went 2 for 4 while Evan Longoria added a base hit of his own as Tampa put up just six hits as a team in the win. Blake Snell was solid, getting the win to improve to 3-6 this season after allowing just an unearned run over 6.2 innings of work, giving up six hits in the win. Alex Colome closed the door in the 9th for his 41st save of the season. Chris Archer will start game two and is 9-7 with a 3.66 ERA and 225 strikeouts this season. In his career, Archer is 3-1 with a 3.86 ERA and 37 strikeouts against the White Sox.

The Chicago White Sox will look to snap a four game losing skid after dropping game one on Friday. Leury Garcia drove in the White Sox’ lone run, but didn’t get credit for the RBI thanks to a throwing error from the aforementioned Logan Morrison. Yolmer Sanchez and Kevan Smith each added two hits with Smith chipping in a double. Tim Anderson also added a double while Avisail Garcia added a base hit of his own as the White Sox mustered up just seven hits as a team in the losing effort. Reynaldo Lopez took the loss, falling to 0-2 this season after giving up three runs on five hits while striking out seven over six innings of work. Carlos Rodon will start game two and is 2-5 with a 4.27 ERA and 72 strikeouts this season. In his career, Rodon is 0-0 with a 7.71 ERA and 3 strikeouts against Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 in Archer’s last 5 starts against a team with a losing record while the under is 8-1-1 in their last 10 games against the AL Central. Chicago is 2-5 in Rodon’s last 7 starts against the AL East and 0-7 in their last 7 games against the AL East while the under is 7-0 in their last 7 home games. Tampa Bay is 4-1 in Archer’s last 5 starts against the White Sox.
Tampa Bay needs to keep winning to stay in the wild card race and what better team to rack up wins against than a struggling White Sox team that’s sending a struggling Rodon to the mound after giving up five earned in five innings in his last start. Not to mention the Rays have had success against the White Sox with Archer on the mound, so this is a game the White Sox should be able to take by a couple of runs.
