The Philadelphia Phillies and Miami end their series in a Sunday MLB baseball matchup.
The Philadelphia Phillies are shooting for a strong finish to the season with an eye towards adding a few players in the offseason. The Phillies shot at a three game winning streak went by the wayside in Saturday’s 10-9 defeat at Miami. The Phils struggled on the mound with starter Aaron Nola giving up six runs on ten hits and a walk including a pair of long balls. Philadelphia did their damage on nine hits and a pair of bases on balls with Tommy Joseph and Rhys Hoskins each going deep and driving in two while Nick Williams drove in three more followed by Cesar Hernandez with an RBI and run. The Philadelphia Phillies hand Sunday’s start at the Miami Marlins to Jake Thompson for his 7th appearance of the season. In six games (three starts), Thompson has gone 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA.

The Miami Marlins were positioning themselves for a run at the Wild Card a short week ago but have since fallen off the pace. The Marlins had dropped five in a row following Saturday night’s victory that saw the bats overcome a bullpen that nearly gave away a big lead. Fish starter Dan Straily was charged with four runs before Jarlin Garcia allowed five runs on four hits and a walk. The Marlins racked up 17 hits and walked twice with Giancarlo Stanton going solo while Marcell Ozuna homered and drove in four followed by Derek Dietrich and his pinch hit three run jack. The Miami Marlins have named Jose Urena as Sunday’s starter versus the Philadelphia Phillies who he sees for the second time in 2017. Urena comes off of an 11-2 defeat at the Washington Nationals with four runs scoring on five hits and three BB in four frames.
Philadelphia are 8-1 in their last 9 Sunday games and the under is 18-7-3 in Philadelphia last 28 Sunday games while Philadelphia are 24-55 in their last 79 road games. Miami are 10-3 in their last 13 home games and the under is 8-2 in Urena’s last 10 Sunday starts.
The Marlins certainly don’t instill confidence right now but in my view this is a game they need to win…
