The Minnesota Twins host the Kansas City Royals in Sunday MLB baseball action at Target Field.
The Kansas City Royals are still in Wild Card contention but the team needs a season ending hot streak. The Royals took a step back in their Wild Card quest with a 17-0 defeat at the Minnesota Twins where nothing went favorably. KC starter Onelki Garcia allowed four runs on four hits in 1/3 of an inning with Andres Machado giving up six runs on four hits and three free passes while Eric Skogland and Trevor Cahill gave up three runs apiece. Kansas City posted seven hits but did not record a walk with Paulo Orlando logging a pair of singles. Ian Kennedy hopes to end his struggles on the mound when the Kansas City Royals start him at the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. Kennedy has had problems the last three times out with 15 runs plated on 19 hits including six long balls over ten innings.

The Minnesota Twins are hoping to solidify their position in the Wild Card race. The Twins have been playing well and continued to win with Saturday’s one sided victory that gave the team wins in five of six. Minnesota was outstanding on the mound and at the plate with starter Kyle Gibson allowing five hits through six scoreless innings that upped his record to 9-10. The Twins offense amassed 17 hits and nine walks with Brian Dozier smacking a three run homer while Eduardo Escobar clubbed a pair of long balls with six RBI’s followed by three players with a pair of RBI’s apiece. The Minnesota Twins give Sunday’s starting assignment versus the visiting Kansas City Royals to Ervin Santana. Santana comes off of a 6-4victory versus the Chicago White Sox where he gave up three runs on seven hits and a pair of BB over 6.2 frames.
