The St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants square off in the finale of their four game set from AT&T Park on Sunday.
The St. Louis Cardinals will look to win the series after dropping game three on Saturday by a final score of 2-1. Dexter Fowler went 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI while Jose Martinez added a base hit of his own as the Cards put up just three hits as a team in the loss. Lance Lynn threw eight innings of one hit, shutout baseball, walking and striking out four apiece, not factoring in the decision. Seung Hwan Oh gave up the game-tying run for his 4th blown save of the year, while Ryan Sherriff was walked off, taking the loss to fall to 0-1 this season. Luke Weaver will start the finale and is 3-1 with a 2.48 ERA and 36 strikeouts this season. In his career, Weaver is 0-1 with a 0.00 ERA and 4 strikeouts against San Francisco.

The San Francisco Giants will look to salvage a series split with the Cards after emerging victorious in game three on Saturday. Buster Posey hit the game-tying RBI single in the 9th before Nick Hundley hit a walk-off homer in the 10th for the victory. Hunter Pence and Joe Panik added base hits as offense was at a premium in this one, as the Giants put up just four hits as a team in the win. Jeff Samardzija gave up one run on two hits, walking a pair and striking out nine, not factoring in the decision. Sam Dyson got the win, improving to 2-2 as a member of the Giants this season. Madison Bumgarner will start the finale and is 3-6 with a 2.85 ERA and 81 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bumgarner is 3-4 with a 3.97 ERA and 42 strikeouts against St. Louis.
St. Louis is 10-4 in their last 14 games against the NL West and 4-0 in their last 4 road games against a team with a losing home record while the over is 10-3 in their last 13 road games. San Francisco is 12-5 in their last 17 home games against a team with a winning record and 1-5 in their last 6 games against a right-handed starter while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games against the NL Central. St. Louis is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in San Francisco.
I am usually the first to back an ace like Bumgarner with a low line, but the Giants are still one of the worst teams in all of baseball. St. Louis needs to keep winning if they want to have any chance of contending over the next couple of weeks, and Weaver has been nothing to sneeze at either, being as good as advertised with ten strikeouts in back-to-back starts, allowing just two earned over 12.2 innings over that span. Not to mention the Cards have won each of his last three starts, so I’l take a shot with the Cardinals as a fade from the Giants as a team even with Bumgarner on the mound.
