The New York Yankees take on the Baltimore Orioles in game one of their three game AL East division set from Camden Yards on Monday.
The New York Yankees come into this one looking to gain some more momentum after taking three of four from the Red Sox over the weekend, including a 9-2 victory in the series finale on Sunday Night Baseball. Starlin Castro led the way, going 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs. Aaron Judge broke his 15-game home run drought, going 1 for 5 with a homer and two RBIs. Chase Headley, Matt Holliday and Todd Frazier all belted out respective solo home runs, while Gary Sanchez went 2 for 5 with an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for the Yankees in the win. Jacoby Ellsbury made sure to leave his mark, going 3 for 3 at the dish in the winning effort for New York. Luis Severino got the win to improve to 12-6 this season after giving up just an unearned run on two hits while striking out nine over six innings of work. Jordan Montgomery will start the opener and is 7-7 with a 4.15 ERA and 123 strikeouts this season. In his career, Montgomery is 1-1 with a 3.31 ERA and 20 strikeouts against Baltimore.

The Baltimore Orioles come into this one still in the hunt for a wild card spot after salvaging a series split with the Blue Jays, including a 5-4 extra innings win in the finale on Sunday for their ninth win in their last eleven games. Welington Castillo and Mark Trumbo each had three hits and two RBIs, with Castillo belting out a pair of solo homers, while Trumbo added a solo shot of his own in addition to the walk-off RBI single in the 12th. Trey Mancini rounded out the scoring with a sac fly RBI while going 1 for 5 with a double. Jonathan Schoop went 3 for 6 with a pair of double while Adam Jones and Chris Davis added a two-bagger respectively. Tim Beckham, Manny Machado and Joey Rickard also contributed base hits as every O’s batter had at least one hit in the win for Baltimore. Chris Tillman gave up three runs on three hits while walking three and striking out a pair, not factoring in the decision. Jimmy Yacabonis got the win to improve to 2-0 this season after throwing two innings of relief. Dylan Bundy will get the nod in game one and is 13-8 with a 3.94 ERA and 137 strikeouts this season. In his career, Bundy is 2-2 with a 4.44 ERA and 24 strikeouts against the Yankees.
New York is 1-8 in Montgomery’s last 9 starts against a team with a winning record and 1-4 in their last 5 games against a right-handed starter while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 division matchups. Baltimore is 7-0 in Bundy’s last 7 starts and 9-2 in their last 11 games overall while the under is 4-1-1 in their last 6 division matchups. New York is just 8-23 in the last 31 meetings between these two teams in Baltimore.
I was initially leaning Yankees considering how well they played against Boston. However this is a day game on a quick turnaround after the Yankees had to play Sunday night, and are going up against Bundy who is fresh off of a complete game one hit shutout in his last start and Baltimore has won each of his last seven starts. Gotta lay the juice with the O’s to keep their momentum going here.
