Down at Marlins Park on Monday, the Washington Nationals and the Miami Marlins will be meeting up to kick off their MLB series. The Nationals are coming off four games against the Brewers. Washington won on Saturday 3-2 but lost the other three games.
For Monday’s game, the Nationals will be going with RHP AJ Cole. In his 28.0 innings and 1-4 record this year, Cole has a 4.50 ERA with 26 Ks.

Washington has a few solid bats this year. Daniel Murphy came out of the week with 147 hits, 82 runs, 20 homers and 84 RBI while Ryan Zimmerman managed 136 hits, 78 runs, 30 homers and 91 RBI. Murphy plated a run on Sunday; Zimmerman ripped a two-run homer.
Over on the Marlins’ side, they just finished up against the Phillies. Miami also won Saturday and dropped the other three games, including a 3-1 defeat in 12 innings on Sunday.
Miami is going to be starting LHP Adam Conley on Monday. In his 84.1 innings and 6-6 record this year, Conley has a 5.02 ERA with 62 Ks and 31 BBs.
The Marlins have some big hitters as well. Dee Gordon exited the week on 163 hits, 94 runs and 25 RBI while Marcel Ozuna managed 159 hits, 76 runs, 32 homers and 107 RBI. Gordon had a day off Sunday; Ozuna went 0-for-5.
The Nationals are 4-0 in their last four versus the National League East and 5-0 in their last five Monday games. Washington is also 7-3 in their last 10 games versus a left-handed starter and 41-19 in their last 60 games following a loss.
Meanwhile the Marlins are 5-2 in their last seven during game one of a series and 1-4 in their last five games following a loss. Miami is also 1-4 in Conley’s last five starts versus the National League East and the over is 5-2 in the Marlins’ last seven during game one of a series.
Conley has been pretty solid over his last four starts. In three of those, he’s recorded quality starts, giving up six earned over a combined 19.1 innings in that trio. I like Conley to keep it going here against a Washington offense that hasn’t been all that reliable lately. Give me the Marlins to win.
